  • Facing challenges from FBI, Apple vows to strengthen encryption even further

It wasn't the Republicans.  It was Edward Snowden's revelations of the abuses of the GOVMENT, spying on ordinary citizens and collecting information that was outside the mission of the NSA.  I have no idea whether Snowden is/was a Democrat, Republican, Libertarian or whatever, and I suspect most people who heard his message don't care either.

  • Users of Microsoft's 'free' Windows 10 find unexpected ads on lock screen

My friend's Windows 7 computer gets incessant pop-ups from the taskbar to encourage "upgrading" to Windows 10.  She doesn't want to "upgrade" yet, but I fear she'll eventually click the "OK" button by accident instead of the "X" button to close the pop-up.  That's another form of forced, unwanted advertising.  I consider myself fortunate, because with my Linux system, nobody is pushing anything at me.

I think Apple has already caved. All the bluster by Tim Cook is window dressing to keep the fan base happy and so they'll keep buying Apple products in the mistaken belief that what they store on their iPhones and at iCloud is secure and confidential. After all, Apple Computer is a corporation, and corporations are creatures of and beholden to the government.
