  • If you go to Settings > Notifications > Messages there should be a slide switch for "Show Preview"... turn that off and I think it tells you that you have a new message, but doesn't show the contents.

  • Well, that's exactly what they have done for past releases of Mac OS X. They announce the date about 3 or 4 weeks ahead of the launch, and any machines purchased from that date on can upgrade to the new version for $10 or something.

  • Unfortunately, no. It took me a while to work it out, too, but the actual ".Mac" text is a header, not a link. The two links are below it: "Learn more" and "Log in". It does look like a broken link, though

  • Call Apple and they should replace it. I had the same thing happen to my magsafe adapter a few months ago, and they replaced it without any argument. I do have Applecare, however, if that helped any. I'd suggest not using it in the meantime, thou…

  • I seem to recall that there's usually a final update for the outgoing OS release around the time the new major OS version release approaches. 10.3.9 was around the time of 10.4's release, and brought the same version of WebKit 10.4 was to use (thoug…
  • The point releases usually contain updated versions of WebKit... However, the last one (10.4.8) was back in September last year, which explains why bugs that were fixed months ago haven't made it out in official form yet. It looks like 10.4.9 is …
  • Why on Earth would you want to stack an aTV on a Mac Mini? The point of the aTV is to store or fetch content from a PC that's somewhere else in your house and display it on your TV. If your Mac Mini is under the TV anyway, then just hook it up di…
  • I really don't expect a major paradigm shift. What would all third-party apps do if Apple got rid of windows, menus, etc? That's not the kind of change you can keep hidden and surprise developers with a few months before launch. "Oh, and by the way,…

  • I'm beginning to think that the box I described is possible and feasible at the $299 price... maybe it's just leaking RDF from reading all the MWSF rumours, but I've done a little investigation and I think it could be so. Let's start with the 30G…

  • If you look at the floorplans, you'll see that stand 69430A is in fact marked as occupied by Sling Media (as are B to F).
  • iPhoto stores all of your photos by date. Somewhere else it keeps a list of albums and which pictures are in each album, but it doesn't make actual folders for these on your drive and populate them with the photos. It would probably be a bit of a wa…
  • I found them (eventually). Look up in the menu bar - you get a new menu named "Chapters" when you play a podcast. A bit of a weird place for Apple to move it to, but then there are a few things that can be classed as "weird" in iTunes 7 (like that b…
  • Here's a few things I posted on another forum, I thought it might be worth repeating them here... Firstly, during the Keynote when the guy used Time Machine to retrieve the presentation file, he called up a preview of that file which opened up (p…
  • You might have dragged some songs into the Party Shuffle screen by accident. These are queued and marked as specifically requested by you, and the Source option tells it where to pick new tracks from AFTER it's played all the queued songs. Just s…
