I'm just excited that some of the RAW editing features might make it to ACR4 in CS3. Tons of great editing features and it runs impressively fast, without requiring a top end graphics card. And the program is only 4MB to download! Lightroom as it…

I always advice all my friends to get the compressed air out and give their machines a good spray once a year, especially when summer (down under) has just started...

About taking too many CPU cycles playing music. I think it is because OS X does the decoding using the CPU and does not send the processing to the soundcard DSP. I could be wrong though. It was certainly true with older machines, not sure if newer o…

It could be needing a firmware upgrade too... I have some DVDs that I can burn up to 8X on my Powermac, but my Powerbook only burns the same discs at 2X, even though it is capable of 8X burning. Othere DVDs work fine, but this Princo one is slow for…

As already mentioned, drive burn speed and RAM are two completely different things. Are you burning a DVD instead of a CD? A DVD has 6 times more storage than a CD, so a 1X DVD is actually equivalent to a 6X CD in terms of data rate. You might be us…

IIRC, iBooks don't support monitor spanning, only mirroring. So, this might not work anyway. Secondly, you're trying to connect VGA on iBook, to ADC on display, is that right? Not gonna happen again, you can go the other way around ADC on video c…

Cool. That means upgrading the PowerBook's HDD will not affect any SMS capability. Thanks!

I'm thinking that the HDD may just be a standard 2.5in HDD and the detector is external to it. Can anyone confirm?

Not gonna work. There is no firewire chipset in the iPod.

You can use smart playlists and specify a maximum capacity, like 2GB or 4GB, etc... so you always copy to the fullest capacity, but allow some randomness or other criteria you may want to specify.

Can you see the drive from within Disk Utility? If so, try forcing a mount from within Disk Utility. That happens to me occasionally (but not often), and this fixes it.

No worries...

One more thing, there's always some small amount (about 30MB) of "Free" RAM. This is always reserved for the OS to do emergency stuff, like kernel panics and the like. And sometimes when programs terminate, the RAM does not become "Inactive", bec…

No, the system will only page if it does not have "Free" and/or "Inactive" RAM. In other words, everything is either "Wired" or "Active". What's the point of paging if there's still RAM that can be used? Remember, "Active" RAM is RAM actually doing …

Wired = RAM used by OS. Cannot be paged onto hard drive. Active = Currently in use by applications. Can be paged if necessary. Inactive = Previously used by applications and can be reclaimed by the previous application to speed things along if nec…

Update fine here too. PMG5 dual 2GHz, TiBook 550MHz.

It doesn't happen when you restart, it happens when you login. Try logging out and back in again, the files are there again! I'm having this problem too, but with Colloquy instead. Annoying, but no big deal.

Why not just activate the screen saver? With password protection, of course. In my case, just move the mouse to the top right corner...
