I'm running a 1.8 G5 w/ 2 gigs ram. I updated to Panther last night (didn't opt for the clean install) and proudly state that it went very, very smoothly. So far FCP4 and its related programs appear to be functional, which is most important for my…

I couldn't agree more. While $20 seems like a good deal, I think that anyone who purchased a G5 before the Panther drop date should have received a free upgrade. (Of course I grudgingly paid my $20.) Let's assume for argument's sake that all …

I suspect that's correct. I'll look into that. Thanks.

Strangely, even powepoint files that I never opened on the mac, but simply put on the idisk, could not be re-opened on the PC. What's the solution if the mac powerpoint is a newer version? Is there a solution?

Is it better to clean install or to upgrade?

So what's the concensus? Is FCP4 an Apple product that uses an Apple installer? Also, what's the difference b/t a clean install and an upgrade? Is one preferred over the other? I'm running Jaguar on my G5 (obviously), so is my only option to u…

Not to be a pest, but I think my question may have gotten lost in the thread-- should I reinstall FCP4 after I install Panther, and if so, why? Thanks again.

Question from the uninitiated: I too have a shiny new G5 (granted a 1.8, not dualie) and have installed FCP4, the primary app. that I'll be working with. I just pre-ordered Panther for $20. Is it suggested that, after I install Panther, I rei…

Final Update: Got the new one last night & it appears to be in perfect working order. Whew! That was a headache, but all appears to have worked out in the end. PUNCHLINE: I bought an ipod to congratulate myself on getting through this d…

Quote: Originally posted by luigi No. Any G5 can be used with any of the Apple monitors. Despite owning a dualie, I'm by no means a "Power User". But you ordered a top of the line dualie G5 with extra RAM, and 2 large drives, and do FCP edit…

i guess in your case, how do you know it's the computer and not the display? [/B][/QUOTE] I can't be certain that it was the computer. The Apple techsupport fellow said that it almost definitely was, if for no other reason than because the moni…

As a new Apple user, I don't have any other compatable video cards lying around. Also, one would think that spending $3000+ would get you a product that worked out of the box!
