I hate to say it, but the next thing I'd do is wipe the drive clean, run a disk check on it and re-install the OS.

I'd also try clearing out the font and browser caches. You can use a tool like Onyx to do that. Do you get the same problem if you create a new user account on your Mac?

Open up Activity Monitor.app and get some video content up and running. Check to see if there is anything suspicious that starts chugging up your CPU usage when the framerate drops.

You can delete the dmg files once you've extracted the contents from them. You should ideally be moving all the applications you have downloaded to the /Applications folder.
