I'll see your Woo-hoo and raise you a woot. C.

Carson, I'd have a look at those monitors first before buying. Find out if those fast response times come at the price having interpolative color, hotspots or any of the other little "gotchas". Cheers, C.

My bad, you're right - new displays... but also the Geforce 6800 "Ultra DDL". If you're willing to shell out an additional $500 over the stock 5200... C.

Well, I just noticed the Apple store is down, maybe we'll see some hardware goodness to soften the blow... C.

I do fear for the future of the Mac games market. OpenGL is slowly, but surely, getting phased out the arena. It's increasingly becoming about writing for DirectX-specific features now and that means it will become even more costly to port games ove…

Oi! Does anyone else get the impression that this is a lot like sticking one's head in the lion's mouth and then flicking his love-spuds with a wet towel? Heh, gotta like 'em though. Pretty ballsey. C.

I think Steve will mention it, briefly, and point out that everyone else has been having problems moving over to 90nm - not just Apple. He'll say this knowing it'll be forgotten in a month. Will there be a bake-off? These... "carefully configured" b…

IME in a production environment, while OS X itself seems to be more stable than 9 (though 9 has been good to me), most of the major creative applications for it are not. Networking needs to be improved as well - bigtime. I have noticed that once…

Wow... I never realized Dell had that kind of marketshare in EDU sales. I knew it was good, but just about 1/2!?! I remember just *4* years ago when Apple had twice the marketshare of it's nearest competitor in education sales. Damn, that's just…

Today's wall... some Unreal 3 goodness. Cheers, C.

Commodore Vic 20 to an Amiga 2000! At least that felt like the biggest jump in performance - it was like a whole new world... 8) Cheers, C.

iBooks aren't bad at all, but if you're going to go the notebook route do have a look at some of the PC notebooks in that price range. Even at ~$1000 you can get a decent Toshiba notebook with a 15" screen, larger HD and probably a fair bit faster t…

I would also suggest going with the dual 1.8, but for graphic design and video work I would still recommend against buying an LCD display. CRTs are still the best choice for color fidelity and displaying video. I'd recommend getting a decent 19" mon…

While the first big rollout of PCI-E machines (Dell, HP, etc.) is due this weekend (or thereabouts), AGP will be around for some time to come - particularly for budget boxes. AMD is a little slower in adopting PCI-E - I don't think they're going to …

Alderwood will be their performance Mobo, the Grantsdale one is more consumer oriented (though the 8 channel audio is supposed to be *very* nice). Though personally, the Asus A8V for AMD socket 939 CPUs is just a wee bit nicer. Cheers, C.
