I agree with Splinemodel, unless you absolutely need the 17", a MacBook is a much better value for a few $$$ more. A 1GHz G4 is pretty slow these days...

No fix to this problem? I just held the power button until it went off.

Despite the popularity of Parallels, I think most Mac users still don't need nor care for running Windows apps. Let the people who need the capability buy Parallels and let Apple concentrate on core OS X.

Hasn't somebody from Apple already officially confirmed there will be no built-in virtualization in OS X?

Some Future Shop locations have Macs on display and some don't...

Why would you want to let those high-school monkies that Future Shop hires to screw around with your Mac? That's just asking for trouble! Go to a Mac dealer, where at least they might have a clue.

I'm pretty sure this is configurable so it doesn't erase data it didn't create.

Maybe take back the drive and get another one. BTW, Firewire will provide noticeably better performance.

No, disk partitioning is destructive. There might be a non-destructive way of doing it, but not with Disk Utility.

Is your external hard drive "known good", meaning does it work perfectly with other computers? it's not normal for SD to freeze during a backup. You might want to report this problem to them, they might be able to help.

Partition the disk using Disk Utility. Keep your backup on a partition the same size as your hard drive and the other partition can be the remainder. Don't forget to keep backups of the second partition as well...

If SuperDuper is doing any sort of copy verification, that might explain the half speed. Obviously, as you said, the higher number of small files, will slow it down significantly as well. I have never really paid too close attention to the perfo…
