  • I'm sure there are many prototypes of computers in Apple's R&D department. They spend a lot of money doing this. There are probably prototypes for the next gen iMac (or whatever it will be called). These things usually take years to develop s…
  • Actually it's the Reuters newservice. They do this all the time and very rarely correct their mistakes. CNN just picked up the story (as do other newspapers unfortunately).
  • Did you post the same thread twice for stereo effect? You should be more worrid (sic) about your spelling.
  • Quote: Originally posted by ArticulatedArm Has anyone heard what the actual surface of the iMac is? It was supposed to be brushed aluminum... but it looks like it is coated with something... what is that colored hard coat stuff that they use o…
  • There are 3 fans. Go here for an interesting article on how the iMac is "cooled": http://news.com.com/New+iMac+tries+t...3-5331745.html 6 years ago there was the first iMac at $1499. We've come a long way!
  • True enough on the s t r e t c h i n g thing. Guess we'll have to wait for real world tests. Interestingly according to the Apple site the tests were done August 24! They must have just finished the software tweaking last weeek?
  • Here's a chart taken from the Apple site which certainly shows improved performance vs. the previous iMac: More stuff here.
  • "Creators of the iPod" is artistic licence and a promotional gimmick. Apple is using the cachet* of the iPod's success, directing the promotion of the new G5 iMac particularly to PC users who have bought more iPods then Apple folk. The creator of …
  • The corners are rounded just like the iPod. See:
  • Based on real photos posted from the Expo, the iMac has more personality and interesting details then what you see on the website with those flat, overly photoshopped pictures. This has always been the case since I can rememeber. See it in person …
  • Some comments I've read from the Expo say that the screen is much brighter then the current LCD iMac. When comparing off the shelf computers these new iMac's stack up very well as Bancho shows. We know that the iMac has never been a game machine. …
  • More photos from the Apple booth... front shots too. http://www.macobserver.com/gallery/Booth-MacG5
  • Apple's website photos are always heavily doctored and don't show the "depth" or detail of the enclosurers. We already know that when we see any of the products in-person. They always look nicer and invite one to touch them! Here are some more "re…
  • When the first iMac came out there was a round hole on the side door to run the cables through. I remember that at resellers the set ups failed to put them through the hole. Look here! Geez!!!!!!

  • Don't like it? Don't buy it then. AS I noted previously the whinning begins. Nothing that Apple introduces can satisfy some, although some do come around when they actually see the machine in person. That's life I guess. Have a great day.
  • I like it. Bet it will look even better in person. This is much better then I thought it would be. Clean, simple (like the iPod) and actually cheaper then the old model. Can a computer fly? This one will, off the shelves. Perfect companion to …
  • Fantastic. Quanta make them I think. They make laptops. This is a laptop on steroids. 4:38 AM] US$1299 - 17" 256 MB RAM, Combo Drive, 80 GB drive, 64 MB video card. This compares to US$1799 for the old starting iMac. US$1499 - 17", with 1.…
  • Crowd is going wild. - MacObserver. Pic above is correct. [4:37 AM] You can unscrew three screws, and the entire back comes off. The crowd loves it! The G5 module, when looking at the back, is on the right side. There are three fans in t…
  • All keynotes spend most of the time rehashing the previous. Nothing new. Soon?
