Does anyone know what the production codenames for these were? I heard somewhere that the 17" powerbook was referred to as Mini-Me by the developers (probably with some irony and also as a reference to the TV commercial) but that sounds like it wou…

Can someone describe what the aluminum case feels like? I'm hoping that it is quite smooth and metallic feeling...

I'm getting one if I can figure some way to pay for it. It's pretty much exactly what I have been wanting (admittedly it's still too big and heavy for a true subnotebook, but I can live with it).

Hey -- the Apple IIc was a classic! I remember they advertized it as a semi-portable. No, couldn't run off battery and had no monitor, but was considerably better than most computers of the era.

The pics on Apple's website suck -- they are just renders, not actual photos. Go to this site for some better pictures -- I think the new books look great.

Yep, that's it. Damn, who came up with those names? "Wildeepz" and "Powersleevz"? I thought the PBG4 sleeve looked pretty good though. For those interested the link is here:

Yeah, I'm looking for this particular company (the sleeve is the thing I am particularly interested in).

It wouldn't surprise me if the next major revision of powerbook added some impressive new features, but brought the prices back to the previous levels. It has already happened once, as I recall, before the Tibooks got combo drives.

As long as you buy a DVD-R (not DVD+R) General Use disc, it should work in the superdrive. You can get them at best buy, although of course they charge through the nose for them.

It's a little unclear why apple doesn't refer to them as DVD-RW drives. The main thing you have to remember is that iDVD doesn't burn to DVD-RW without resorting to a swap. I've also had some funkiness occur with DVD-RWs I have burned but it was …

If the computer itself is non-functional and you want to just use the screen as an LCD monitor, that is harder than you might expect. You should really ask/look around the forums on Applefritter.com -- if anyone would know about these things they w…

Is the color/case of new ibook identical to that of the old? [ 11-08-2002: Message edited by: icruise ]

[quote]Originally posted by EmAn: But if people know that there's a way to get it to work on iBooks then I doubt they'd go for the Powerbook if they didn't have to. Possibly, but a lot of people don't frequent these kinds of forums, so I thi…
