I had a look at the site and it's pretty intimidating. I'm not at all experienced in Unix or even Terminal, so I'm afraid of really messing things up. So basically, if I want to repair the disk, I start up in Single User Mode, and I'll be greeted…

With 10.4.8 you can hold down CTRL and use your scroll wheel to zoom in even faster.

It's been a common criticism of Macintosh that it virtually (if not completely) requires a mouse. Microsoft Word really frustrates me as I can't change the zoom with a key combo. Every time I open it the zoom is far too small.

Besides, by time that happens, parallels software will hopefully be advanced enough that if you have a copy of windows and a copy of office lying around, it won't affect you much. In fact, it's much easier to get a pirated version of office for w…

That only seems to work on really old hotmail accounts or else you need to upgrade to Hotmail Plus.

Now if only Apple can make Safari work with my school's website...

I'm on a 12" powerbook. I often use Safari in a 'maximized' view. When I click the zoom button, it will either make the window less wide (its intended function), or sometimes it places the window somewhere completely random, half of it off the scree…

Thank you! Just 2 more questions: Some USB adaptors will not work with Mac, right? Can I use a USB dongle to pick up wireless from any router? Or do they have to be from the same company?

Is there no way to do this? Is the only solution to run a cable upstairs?

Yes its true, at least it was with the Powerbooks. You can download a utility called "Sleepless." It's shareware, and it allows you to run the laptop with the lid closed provided you have it plugged in. I use it all the time when playing music, b…

No idea, but try the other way around. That is, restart the iMac and put it in target disk mode. Then you can use your MacBook to get at the iMac's hard drive and transfer files.

I would suggest you contact Microsoft. They should be able to help you. If System Profiler recognizes it, it's not a hardware issue. My best guess is that Microsoft will tell you to download some driver from some website. As you may be on hold…

I have a feeling that they're working on one but it will use VoIP only. With more and more cities getting blanket coverage (Toronto should have it by fall) the possibility of using VoIP cellphone service is very real.

This has long been available for Powerbook users: http://www-users.kawo2.rwth-aachen.de/~razzfazz/ I use it on my 12" PB G4 and I can't live without it. Two finger scrolling and two finger right click. I could control click, and I still occ…

I tried again using Unix File System. This time I could hear the iPod hard drive clicking for about 2 minutes while the spinning beach ball did its thing in disk utility. Then I got this error message: Disk Erase Error Disk Erase failed with t…

Disk utility is freezing on me. I can hear the iPod clicking for about 15 seconds, during which Disk Utility.app is unresponsive. Then a task bar appears below saying "Creating Partition Map" but it's just stuck there. So I disconnected the iPod…

How long is this supposed to take? The log says that it is "creating a Partition Map" but the task bar is stuck at about 1/20th of the way complete. I'm afraid to quit Disk Utility because it warns that the disk may be unusable...

How do I reformat it? iPod updater won't work. How do I reformat it through disk utility?
