Quote: Actually, I think people have said that upgrading a G4 to a G5 is close to impossible. People have upgraded single 1.6 G5's to 1.8 by replacing the CPU module, so it is possible... It would be interesting to see if an upgrade to the 970MP is…

I have another one. If I minimize a QT window (the yellow button), I can't get it to show again unless I try to reopen the file. Not a huge deal to me, but certainly strange.

Well, I predict that the Intel-macs will have DRM built into the hardware. Both Intel and AMD are being forced to travel down the DRM road, and I think they are planning to put it in hardware soon. I'm pretty sure Intel's newest chipset, 955 for dua…

Well, you can't directly compare a 2-CPU system with a uniprocessor. Some applications prefer clockspeed over multithreading, and other programs can be the exact opposite. In other words, some apps won't even use the other processor, so it's like ha…

Everyone above is correct, it will work anyway. I just wanted to reinforce their statements.

Well, he's installing Gentoo linux on the PB along with OSX, and he's going to see what happens. He doesn't completely buy the fact that his RAM is causing the problems, especially since he had no issues until he installed Tiger. People are having v…

You can always try adjusting the file "iTunes Music Library.xml" in your iTunes folder. It's the file that keeps a record of all your tracks and the data associated with each song. I've never tried it myself, so I don't know if it will work.

They do make 100gb models now, too.

With the G5, you need those handles. Dang are these things heavy!

Do you think that eventually we will see G5 upgrade kits like we already see for G4? It might be nice to buy something like this a year from now...

Dell sells a good 20" TFT widescreen for a good price. Sometimes it's on sale for considerably less. I'd say you can pick one up for $700-500, depending on if they are in a dealing mood that week.

Yeah, my buddy was having serious issues with his PB, and when he took it to a Apple repair place, they told him to pull the 1GB 3rd party soDIMM out. I don't know if he's still having problems, but he was a bit upset, since he's running Tiger on 25…

yeah, 80GB is near the ceiling on notebook HDs. If you step down to a 60gb or 40gb, you end up paying considerably less.

IF such a thing happened, I imagine Apple would ask Intel if they could use their own branding. Considering the G5's don't have any external markings, I doubt we'll see anything Intel related on the outside. Right now, all that most Apple products h…

actually, yes. It's about as thin as a checkbook but only 2/3s the length. It certainly doesn't weigh much either.

It appears that this is possible because the R9600 uses the standard AGP 3.0 interface, rather than the AGPpro. The 9600 has always been able to get its power from the AGP slot, but cards like the 9800 and up require more voltage, so they NEED to us…

Well, I recommend buying a 2.5" notebook drive enclosure, along with a notebook hard drive. While it costs more, it will be worth it, IMO. The enclosure is very small compared to 3.5" enclosures, and notebook drive enclosures use USB 2.0 to power th…

Ask the flight attendant to run an extension cord up to first class. Slip him/her a $20.

DDR is getting really really cheap these days. Plus, you can buy 1GB soDIMMs from other online retailers for ~$100. Here's newegg.com's list

Well, let's hope that Intel gets the thermals under control by then. Right now netburst is a less than stellar design, with probably a higher TDP than the G5. High end P4s run about 125Wmax, and the dual cores are even hotter than that. I for one ho…
