re the Scouring: the whole book can be read as a lamentation for a world that is passing away, and the Scouring drives home the point that even the Shire will never be the same again. Industrialization (Sandyman's mill, etc.) is a part of that, but …

I haven't seen it, but the WSJ said it sucked.

I dunno, man. She's OK as long as you stay out of the way of that pointy chin. Those are some nasty-looking feet, though. I think her toes are longer than mine! Really, not a great photo all around. It's even tilted a bit. That photogra…

Sorry to come in late on this one ... the release date is Nov. 12, according to the LOTR movie Web site. First season of Babylon 5 will be released Nov. 5 (how clever of them). [ 10-25-2002: Message edited by: CaseCom ]

Looks like Louisiana was lucky. Lili weakened to Category 2 by the time it made landfall. 90 mph winds ... 4 to 8 inches of rain ... storm surge of 6 to 10 feet.

Lili is one nasty bitch. Sustained winds of 145 mph ... 8 to 10 inches of rain expected ... storm surges of up to 20 feet (!) above normal tide possible. Center is expected to make landfall in south-central Louisiana in a few hours.

Wow ... Angels 13, Twins 5 Good luck to the Angels; they've been playing great ball and have great fans. Angels vs. Cardinals would be a great Series. We'll be back!

Nice pic, Eugene. I'm not giving up on my Twins, though ... I think they'll battle back to win tomorrow, and then who knows what will happen at the Dome. And teams do come back from 3-1 deficits ... as Angels fans well know

Bummer but I like the Twins' chances tomorrow with Radke pitching. It's still anybody's series. I remember seeing Carew get that hit on TV when I was a kid. The pitcher was Frank Viola. God those powder-blue road unis were hideous.

Alas I was unable to watch tonight's Giants-Cards tilt; I was at the Metrodome watching 60 minutes of bad defense as the Minnesota Gopher footballers barely escaped with their lives, 45-42 over my alma mater, Northwestern... I'm wringing my hands…

Braves, shmaves. Twins win, 2-1! Whoo-hoo!

OK, let's see everyone's LCS predictions: AL: Twins in 7 (of course) NL: Cards in 6

Eugene you might be right as the Twins haven't handled Mulder well all year. But to paraphrase applenut, I wouldn't count those pesky Twins out yet! (Sorry applenut ) Today's game rocked ... I was in row 28 of the upper deck more or less behin…

The Twins really fell flat today ... They got to Zito for three runs but Reed gave up too many longballs. They really looked like a bunch of rookies out there today. I'll be in the stands tomorrow for Game 4! Way to go Angels! They can clinc…
