Back on topic, IIRC Toshiba had trouble getting more than about 35W out of their methanol-powered fuel cells. So, one could use a fuel cell to recharge a laptop's battery, albeit much more slowly than plugging it into mains power. And yes, met…

How does Apple make money in this space when one can already load Leopard (and keep XP or Linux as well) on any of the $300 netbooks already out there? Touchscreen is neat, but will people pay an extra $300 or so for that feature?

Not an apples to apples comparison. A tower is not the same as a small form-factor (sff) PC (Mini is sff) Go price a sff PC and you'll find it is more expensive than the Mini. [QUOTE=DeanShu;1387771]Quote: Originally Posted by jenkman91 …

If you want that DVR add-on for ATV, plan on paying for the privilege. I can see Apple buying Tivo and dropping Tivo's hardware in favor of an ATV-only approach. That way, if you want the best user interface you have to buy an ATV, and pay a …

Reviews of the other Intel-based portables like the MBP and MB have shown you need to chop 2 hours off Apple's estimate of battery life in real world use. E.g. Macworld reviewers were getting 3-3.5 hours on the MBP when Apple was claiming 5.5 hou…

Low-end will have the combo drive and integrated graphics. Combo drive is Apple standard for the low-end model. Plus the low-end model will be the one sold to education - even $50 makes a difference to those buyers Edu buyers will be upset …

Low end ($1199) will have a combo drive, NOT a Superdrive. And it will have integrated graphics (better than the current) Mid-priced model will have a 250GB hard drive, but still be a 20" screen. Top-end will hopefully ship with 2GB RAM.

Information on the new models? Anyone...anyone...Bueller? Seriously, rumor sites obviously need to recruit some new sources. Forget pics, we don't even have specs on new Macs, the day before they are due to be released!

I thought the latest iMac rumor had the 17" back in the lineup? Quote: Originally Posted by alansky Dropping the 17-inch iMac is an incredibly dumb move on Apple's part, IMHO. I know too many people who make very basic use of their computers a…

Are any new models going to ship before Leopard arrives? We are supposedly only a few weeks away from iMacs and yet no website has specs, much less pictures of new iMacs. Except for keyboard pics anyone could have made in Photoshop.

But there's still such a large difference in price between 3.5" and 2.5" drives. I just bought 2 SATA drives - the 5400RPM, 2.5" 160GB drive cost 25% more than the 7200RPM, 3.5" 500GB model (both Seagates) I expect 3.5" 500GB drives to be unde…

Everybody here does understand that you can plug a cheap 5-port Gigabit switch into one of the LAN ports on any wireless router to enable your wired computers to transfer files at 1000 instead of 100 speeds?

There's no chance there will be a Superdrive in an educational Mac. Combo drive at best, but more likely CD drive or no optical drive at all (as with previous education Macs) 80GB hard drive minimum, Core Duo minimum (legacy school application…

You wouldn't have to raise the enclosure 1.5", more like 1" IF you used a thinner drive. Normal 3.5" hard drives are "1/3"-height, but when I upgraded my Replay, I noticed the 40GB drive in there was significantly thinner, more like "1/4"-height,…

The Dell Inspiron 700m I just got has a 12" widescreen, form factor is about 0.75" wider than the Powerbook 12" (otherwise, about the same dimensions) It is substantially lighter than the iBook 12" (4.1 vs. 4.9lbs), but the case plastics are chea…

I have to disagree with those who think the smallest iBook will be one with a 13.3" screen There is little difference in size between portables with a 13.3" screen and ones with 14.1" screens - might as well go with a 14.1" iBook. Most people …
