I would love this as well. Or further (and so less likely) I'd really like to have multiple numbers ring to one iPhone, and be able to assign different ringer settings to different numbers. This way you could have an "always gets through" number you…

but this just seems like a weird way to set it up. My MacBook will run on AC power with the battery removed, so it doesn't seem like it is set up this way. Why not let AC power the iPhone when it's plugged in? I guess it's just a scenario that doesn…

And hey: nice blog. I'm subscribed.

I think 3G will be faster, but I agree with many here that it's not necessarily such a blow out as some of the theoretical bandwidth numbers imply. Basically, 3G does have much faster bandwidth numbers, but you also have to take into account latency…

I'm waiting for the MBP as well. But I'm worried that Apple is going to want to make more space between the pricing of the Air and the Pro. I really hope they don't, but one way they could do it is to put Blu-Ray standard across the MBP line and rai…

I like the new terminal.app - tabs are great - but one thing is driving me crazy. If I have a text string selected, and then change focus to another application and back, the string is no longer selected. I do a lot of repetitive commands and it use…

I installed last night on an 867 Mhz Titanium PBook with 512 MB of RAM (I have another 512 stick on the way.) I didn't think it could take single sticks larger than 512? Are you sure the 1 GB will work? In any case, it installed fine, and is at l…

Do people think there is a chance Apple might encode a user ID into the song files so people sharing music could be tracked? (Might not be enough evidence to prosecute, but it would be very interesting data.) I guess it will be easy to tell once the…

Thanks. That does make sense. I guess this is the problem. I can't put the switch after the router if I use the express, because it doesn't have an ethernet port. I guess I could put a switch after the extreme, but that doesn't do airtunes. Grrrr…

Are people suggesting that junk mail does not learn (when you tell it either something is junk, or not junk) unless you are specifically in training mode? That seems like it couldn't possibly be the case. I did training mode at first for a few we…

I'll answer my own question: it comes with 4 sleds. Very cool.

I like this machine. Finally more drives, and not just 3 but 4. What about the drive sleds though? Are they the same as xServe? And more importantly, are they included with the machine? I mean, if you buy a machine with just 1 drive, and plan to buy…

Thanks Gene Clean. Sorry this strayed OT for this board but I appreciate everyone's help. Turned out CentOS like RHEL doesn't even support read for NTFS in the kernel. I think most other linux distros do. But it was just a simple one line install…

Thanks Lundy. No, all the files are in the 4 to 10 megabyte range. But okay, maybe I'm being really stupid. Is SFTP orders of magnitude slower than FTP? I know it must be slower in some way, but I just can't believe that I'm CPU bound. The Mac is…

Thanks for the replies everyone. I successfully finished the first stage of the copy which was about 100 GB from the HFS+ drive. It did just work to plug it in (USB) to the server. But I've been hit again on the second leg. My next copy is 400 GB…

Thanks for the reply. Turns out it recognizes the HFS+ drive as soon as I plug it in via USB. This is with CentOS 4.2 on the 2.6 kernel. Who knew? Wish I hadn't just assumed it would be hard.

Okay, following up to my own post, hope that's not bad form. I also am curious about the 300 KB/sec. Shouldn't I get more than this? I didn't expect to get the full 10 Mb/sec, but that isn't even close (~2.4 Mb/sec). Does that seem right? I guess…
