I don't have any benchmarks so I guess I can't prove anything. Anyhow, the benchmark you provided is pretty damning evidence, so obviously Java still has a long way to go on Mac OS X

Applet Launcher is found in /applications/utilities Mac OS X really has one of the cleanest and fastest implementation of Java, and Java exists as an API in Mac OS X along with Carbon and Cocoa.

It's not just the genie effect that slows down the whole OS. Perhaps they won't use Quartz for rendering every single pixel, or maybe they will use a light-weight version.

I use Mac OS X most of the time, booting into 9.2.1 only for Office, Photoshop, FCP, printing and scanning.

omniweb has that feature. you can change it to anything you like, apart from being able to select from a list of known browsers.
