• Does it show the track advancing? or does it just hang on connecting? Try disabling the iTunes volume control over AirTunes in iTunes Prefs. If the track is advancing, try pluging your headphones into the airport. See if that works.

• You would need an internet with a good upload speed. The benefit of hosting it at a datacenter is the connection speed. Check out serverlogistics.com or triple8.net for XServe hosting options.

• I have a 1012 and isn't very loud at all. I also have a Konica Minolta 2430DL which is pretty loud, so I might be comparing it to that. Silence for a low level will be difficult to find. I can't here it from the the next room over, if that helps…
