Given that Apple lost its bid, I see no reason to make it give up any information, much less trade secrets. Since it did not get the NFL rights, it could not have cheated to get those rights.

Treat Apple Pay like credit cards? That's an excellent idea. It'd create a level playing field between the two methods of payment and encourage competition and innovation by both.

"On the other hand, also-frequent offender Intuit is having issues.""Frequent offender" is right. I gave up on Intuit many years ago when it kept stalling off bringing out an OS X version of Quicken. It made promises to keep out competition but fail…

I like that Apple, unlike Google, did insert a gap to show that there's no bridge over that creek. That may be because their mapping vehicles drive more places. Apple Maps includes my alley. Google does not. That said, the gap isn't that obvious to …

Here's a description of the U.S. military's drop testing. https://www.howtogeek.com/769688/what-is-mil-spec-drop-protection/

There's a good illustration of the difference between ionizing radiation (as with x-rays) and radio waves (as with an iPhone). —Ionizing radiation has enough concentrated energy to break tiny things, such as the DNA in a cell. That can jumpstart a…

When it comes to one of Apple's largest markets, Europe, the company's arrogance will be its undoing. It is doing everything it can to upset Europeans. It evaded taxes with the Double Irish ploy. It treats European-made laws and court decisions with…

There's an interesting legal angle to these false reports. I was working at a private event when the building's fire alarm went off. By the time the fire department arrived, the staff had discovered the cause. Someone had been cleaning the dust from…

In the US, terms of the Apple-Amazon agreement mean that resellers must either be authorized by Apple, or buy at least $2.5 million in refurbished inventory every 90 days. The latter must come directly from Apple or through a third party with over $…

A double strike makes sense. Actors won't be working when writers are on strike and vice-versa. Striking at the same time gets the same results (better pay) while reducing substantially their lost pay.

I find it amusing that some posters assume that Apple takes what they believe are the proper political stance on issues such as whether men can go into a women's restroom. That creepy behavior is, for them, the "proper" stance. They're forgetting t…

Apple's AR headset hasn't been announced yet and there are already those who insist it is a flop that is dead on arrival -- just like they said with the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and even the Mac.My tech memory goes as far back as the 1984 Mac and …

Given that Apple's WWDC presentations are pre-recorded affairs... That's one reason I've quite watching these presentations. What I suspect Apple likes about these presentations—that they can be carefully controlled and stay "on message"—is precisel…

Apple should spend a tiny slice of its R&D budget on giving OS X and iOS a world-class spelling checker. They'd get more user satisfaction per dollar spent there than in almost any other area. Users waste a lot of time making up for its deficien…

With 75% of the market, Apple has more than enough money to cover its cost and then some. It needs to upset the app market by raising the percentage paid to developers to 80%. Apple would get more apps. Users would get better apps, and developers wo…

A half-century and more ago, California was one of the most well-run states in the country, with various water projects that helped to mitigate for its low-rainfall. That became the foundation for its prosperity. Then a madness descended upon the …

Who cares? The closest Sprint tower to me is over 20 miles away. If I had Sprint, I wouldn't get 100 b ps. I'd get zero. First, get coverage. Then get speed.

This is an interesting situation: 14.5% of the market but 94% of the profits. That doesn't happen often. It's a bit like the Mercedes car. Apple can get away with charging high prices, because its products are seen by consumers as the best and thei…

Others are right. If Apple isn't going to allow third parties to do this useful function, it needs to build it it. I'd suggest two options. One would be like f.lux and reduce bluishness for evening use. The other would make it easier for developers …

He's right. Tablets and laptops work differently. Trying to merge them would result in a worst of both worlds kludge. Laptops center on their keyboards and a trackpad. That means users keep their hands low while sitting at a desks. Tablets involve …
