  • [quote]Originally posted by Lemon Bon Bon: "Well, to be fair, performance isn't everything" Yes it is. That's why the Apple overall 'Nearly' 'Power' Mac sales are shrinking. Lemon Bon Bon I very much feel like you are quoting me o…
  • If moto doesn't have the new G4 ready for MWNY it probably won't be all that long before it is. I think they should just release the low end and middle machines, and announce the high end but not ship (or take orders) 'till it's ready. I'd like t…
  • [quote]Originally posted by Addison: As far as speed goes I am not sure why you are so desperate for much faster machines. I can do most of the things I want without any speed problems, I can only type so fast. Video rendering is the only area wh…
  • Unlike everyone else here I don't think processor speed is the number 1 priority. Bus speed/SMP is. if they can solve that issue they'll be competitive again in notime! Also, two 800 MHz ppc's are actually cheaper than one 1 GHz ditto.
  • [quote]Originally posted by Programmer: Unfortunately that doesn't work -- the processors need to be able to monitor eachother's memory accesses to be sure that they don't step on eachother's toes. The G4 uses a scheme called MERSI that is bas…
  • It looks like a toaster!
  • Apropos the apple leak (or whatever it was) about 100% performance increase. I don't think there's even the slightest chance for 100% increase in clock rate. If the above "rumor" is true, I predict quads for MWNY. I guess that means either there's a…

  • read that moto's got 1.2 GHz G4's ready now, and that must be on 0.18 then, mustn't it? so if the 0.13 proc. is up and running by MWNY, then 1.4-1.5 GHz should be possible. perhaps moto changed it's mind about the G4 on 0.13 when apple decided to lo…
  • [quote]Originally posted by EmAn: Only a 600MHz G3? Isn't that what they have now? I can see a 600MHz G4 or 700MHz G3 on the 12" iBooks and maybe a 700MHz G4 and a better resolution on the 14" iBooks. 12" ibook currently has a 500 MHz G3 (an…
  • Btw, if you want slim+G4, there's always the powerbook Cant have it all if you don't pay for it
  • I see no reason for a 500 MHz G4. At least 550, but if the 12" gets a 700MHz G3 (and it won't be higher than that) then it'll be 600 fer shure They could go for the 600+800 G3's but it seems unlikely, doesn't it?
  • I think the 12" ibook will get a 600 MHz G3 and possibly a slight price cut, while the 14" gets a 600 MHz G4. both gets 16MB graphics cards.
  • I think the actual "server" or clusternode is 1U. its the one on top. the 2U thing underneath it is probably a separate disc unit.
  • Whether the Photo is inverted or not, and regardless of whether you put the mobo on the right or left side of the case, the supposed ide/raid connectors are STILL on the OPPOSITE end of the mobo to the pci-slots. this means the pci-slots are above t…
  • Linux already has three button emulation for two button mice. you just press both simultaneously. so why make a three button when it makes the buttons awkwardly small. I'd definitely prefer a summetrical shape that accomodates both righty and lefty …
  • The rumours about 2-button mice seem quite believeble considering apples recent focus on "converting" windows users. I dont think they'll go for some odd squeeze mouse or keep the 1-button, 'cause of that very reason.
  • I don' think apple left that handle out to save a ridiculously small amount of money. They probably did it 'cause a few of the 'right' people asked for it. it makes the emac slightly harder to steal
  • 2 scrollwheels! (I'm serious) I'd like to see a mouse similar in design to the current one (it shure looks good). but instead of a scrollwheel protruding through a hole i the "clickable area", as has been suggested elsewhere in this thread, i'd lik…
