It should work if the socket and core voltage is the same and the motherboard Chipset supports the new CPU you want to upgrade to. Remember Intel chose to not support the Pentium D (Dual Core) with the 915/925 chipset, even though its only about 8 m…

yeah any idea what the chipset is? 925, 945, 955? Is the P4 3.6 a 660? What does Apple System profilier say?!?!

Yes you can play them on a PC with Win XP if you have a Creative Audigy sound card , they support DVD-Audio playback (but you will only get 24/48 not 24/96 thru the digital outputs). I'm pretty sure there is a DVD-Audio player for OSX... actually af…

Also the software that people buy to use on Powermacs, like FCP, Motion, Logic, etc, etc. has been heavily optimized for the G5 (At least Apple's software has) so it makes sense to keep the Powermac changeover till last, to give time to optimize the…

you guys are forgetting Vanderpool, the Intel virtualization tech. I'll bet a large amount we will see this on IntelMacs. Apple selling a box that can run every OS out there at native speed will be a big selling point. However I'll also put money on…

Dual core P4's are not vapourware, you can walk into a shop and buy a Pentium D and i955 motherboard right now (at least in New Zealand you can) but of course you will need to get a second mortgage for it.... I think we will see the 970MP in a Powe…

Uh Oh this doesnt look good at all.... Some form of Altivec emulation or replacement hardware will be vital for Intel Mac's otherwise they will be lame ducks....

I think the AMD thing is simple, Apple knows more about whats coming down the line from Intel then us. Intel can deliver as many proc's as Apple could ever sell, so supply wont be an issue, Intel are being very agressive about correcting their mista…

wow this is fast becoming a 2002 reunion!

I believe the very first G4 motherboard (yikes!) will fit in a B/W case. I actually have one (a Yikes) sitting under my desk doing nothing (motherboards dead), I was thinking of dropping a PC motherboard in it just for fun.

what is the alternative? stick with ibm and receive no mobile chip and only incremental increase in desktop chips? you have no idea what the intel roadmap is and what intel has promised or is capable of. chung | [/B][/QUOTE] Exactly, is …

Ummm Phil S already said that the x86 Macs will be able to run Windows. There is little reason why they wouldnt. However I expect Apple will be making every effort to ensure that OSX runs much faster on the same box than Win XP.
