If you can then re-install the the machine. Format and everything. Apply all patches and see how stable it is. If it is a hardware issue then the OS should also hiccup at some stage not just apps as OS problems will cause it to hang/whitescreen e…

Have you tried setting the resolution in os 9 to 640x480 @60Hz and then booting os X? HAve you tried booting OS X from the install cd and then jsut exiting and restarting. Dobby.

Sounds like OSX has a resolution conflict. reboot and hold down the shift key during OS X startup. While this turns off extensions on OS 9 it also seems to reset resolution on OS X. Dobby.

I used it on 2 XServes for a month or so but the performance on our network was shit so I let Retrospect run locally again. Dobby.

If Apple bought Leica then their would be another over priced product for 95% of computer users to mock! Get realistic people. Since when has quality had something to do with success! We all know the number one example that doesn't! Dobby.

So, what is exactly the problem? Does the source code work or is the firewall blocking something? Dobby.

It's quite difficult to setup a non-server version of OSX as an authentication server (cept for netinfo). You need the workgroup manager and a couple of others (open directory assistant) to make it easy. Don't use nis (or nis+). Its not exactly …

I would prefer a window popping up with a detailed description of the error like windows has eg. "General Protection Error" or "Syntax Error" Those guys really have it made! Dobby.

Try running disk repair or diskwarrior over the external disk. You might also need to try a fsck_hfs on it. Dobby.

If the mac mini was set to a resolution that the monitor couldn't display that would cause it to stay in saver mode. I have had to reset the PRAM on a Dual 800 that wouldn't work with a monitor. Afterwards all was fine. Dobby.
-
CAn you reset the PRAM on a Powerbook. If so then it might be worth a try. Dobby.

In a large organization I can understand putting in MS OS's due to simple managability of scale and a cost doesn't matter effect. I reckon that 95% of word/excel users would not be able to use the features in word 2 and excel 4 let alone the mult…
