I kept it paired (so it wouldn't interfere with my Mac in the same room) and the Apple TV still works flawlessly using a Harmony 1000 by Logitech. A learning remote doesn't care if it's paired or not.

Turns out the answer is: System Preferences Accounts Login Items And using the minus key icon, delete everything in the login list and reboot. Perfect. Where the Apple Genius failed, AppleCare solved it.

1.5 GB runs Final Cut Pro with no issues. Video and audio is certainly more ram hungry than just audio. Seems odd that using 1/5th of a $79 program bundle (Garage Band) would bring a G5 to its knees.
