Apple stores in USA work because when there are a large number of stores, the distribution overhead costs can be dispersed over all of them, which makes it profitable. In Europe, they would need an entirely new distribution system, and I'm sure t…

Exactly. I really thought a lot of the software that was shown off was quite nice and I'd much rather wait a little while for good PowerMacs instead of taking whatever junk could be scraped together in time for hte MacWorld deadline. It seems …

Well, what is wrong with 5 weeks of inventory on PowerMacs? That's about how long it will be before they announce the new ones anyway. I'd say it's pretty close to perfect.

Too many kids making amateur websites so they can get free shit at MacWorld. It's one of many examples where the actions of a few people ruin something for everybody. Oh well. It's not like anybody was denied access to MacWorld, they just can't …

Well, it sounds sleazy and underhanded the way that article is written, but at the same time it's not a like a rumor site is "real news" anyway and as such, they don't really deserve press credentials. They can still go to the show the same way ever…

I think the iPod for Windows thing will improve the Apple brand's image in the minds of many people and give Apple's name more exposure. Plus it opens up iPod sales to a new market which will potentially lead to many new iPod sales, and an iPod is h…

The 1997 summer macworld keynote with bill gates has to be the most important one in recent memory, but the first one I actually watched was the 1999 iBook intro. I think I missed the january one this year because I was at work. I'll probably mis…

Well, I am reminded of what I did when lost in detroid and in need of a map. I walked into a Circuit City, went to MapQuest on one of their internet demo machines, and got the info I needed. I'm sure a similar strategy could be used to get app…

I agree with Ferro. I would guess that's just how it came out in the end, since apple's promo pictures typically do contain asians, blacks, hispanics, etc. Here I'd say the stories they chose to use just happened to come from white people.

Here is a pic of my computer taken at work over a year ago (I'm still using OS 9 on this one): ...and a more recent pic of what I often do at work: I'll don't really have a home setup, I just plug in wherever I can find room and use it. …

PHP and MySQL would make .Mac much more valuable, but sadly neither of them work.

No, I'm pretty sure the 128 - 512k of cache on intel chips is L2. Also, to the guy who posted above, the & thing lets me keep control of the termina, but appletviewer will still start another process and open up a new window taking just as lo…

I wrote a php guestbook a few months ago. It took me a couple hours. I'd strongly recommend having the php, mysql, and html all on the same server for convenience and speed.

The speed would depend more on the speed of the drive than on the speed of the interface.

Thanks for the reply. I think I installed all of the extra stuff, but it's always possible that I missed something. I didn't see it mentioned anywhere on Microsoft's website or in the help files though. I'll mail you one to look at.

with os x, i don't see much use for linux on a mac anymore.

I'll try that again and see if it helps. Somebody suggested that the driver (or OS) was not sending a form feed instruction to the printer and that was the problem. These are network printers with a Uniprint print server and windows computers …
