As Crowley noted, the 5Cos hardly languishing, it is simply having a hard time gaining % marketshare while the 5S is blowing it out. A similar metrics service is offered by Fiksu http://www.fiksu.com/iOS-7-iPhone-5s-5c-Usage-Tracker . One of their c…

The adoption of iPad Mini Retina is running at a rate which is a bit more that 1/3 that of the new iPad air, according to Fiksu's usage tracker site. http://www.fiksu.com/iOS-7-iPhone-5s-5c-Usage-Tracker What is quite apparent on the iPad usage g…

I appreciate your in-depth reporting, Daniel. While I sometimes rant about the misguided attention given Google's "80%, my devil's advocate position is that Mr. Market's fixation on Google will eventually fade, and in the meantime I can continue to …

My wife still loves here iPad 2, although I intend on giving her an iPad air for her birthday in 2 weeks. I will probably cascade the 2 to a family member. The folks at Fiksu provide hourly updates on the iOS market, looking at activity filters to …

Apple spends $18 Billion on R&D and $1 Billion on Marketing, while Samsung spends $14 Billion on marketing alone. Google spends $15 billion on Motorola and 2 years later gives it away. Yea, Mr. Market wants Apple to emulate those traits, so …

Can you imagine the uproar if Apple was to do something akin to this at an event meant to promote fairness? The NY Times and the Wall St. Journal would have put their exposure on page one. As it is, someone on the city desk will assume Samsung needs…

Perhaps Samsung understands the disconnect between the metrics of products shipped vs those in actual daily use. Otherwise, they should be expecting that a late majority of all phones in use at the Olympics would be theirs anyway... -

Perhaps a blow-out advertisement spot on Superbowl Sunday? .... "

User engagement with the product should be the overriding metric of interest. Apple continues to excel in all such market research. On-line user activity data is reality, and vastly superior to 3rd parties' "research" of tablet sales.

One metric which is jumping out at me today is the iPhone 5s usage data as reported by Fiksu, which leverages its sdk-imbedded tracking data of app use, filtered to count unique devices. http://www.fiksu.com/iOS-7-iPhone-5s-5c-Usage-Tracker Toda…

Perhaps politically incorrect ( something Apple will certainly not admit ), but there is no reason to believe the appearance of iPhones at China Mobile is driven by anything more than what drove Verizon and DoCoMo to eventually support it: customer …

This is Samsung's admission of failure: now they think they need a metal phone. And, how is their new Tizen ecosystem coming?

Apple does not understand that the DOJ desires the company to support a multi $Billion lobby network in DC to employ lawyers "friendly" with the government. Perhaps it is time for Apple to set up corporate offices in Taiwan or Singapore. Heck, th…

Apple is effectively supplying the marketplace with "cheap" iPhones by insuring that older versions of the product are viable for resale and use on the Apple ecosystem. At present, 48% of iPhones in use are iPhone 4 and 4S. Both are compatible with …

Apple does not give out activation data, so I have no idea where the numbers used came from. I get an entirely different read on iPad "activations" from Fiksu http://www.fiksu.com/iOS-7-iPhone-5s-5c-Usage-Tracker , who track millions of iOS device u…

I know why I, as a 25-year Mac user, read AppleInsider. I have strong doubts about the sincerity of Android fans dropping in here to snipe. Likely they are paid for their drivel by Apple's competitors -as if their efforts will sway Apple loyalists.

Speculation vs facts: Fkisu's iOS penetration tracker has been monitoring iOS product's penetration since initial rollout. http://www.fiksu.com/iOS-7-iPhone-5s-5c-Usage-Tracker In the category of iPhone, Fkisu reports that after 90 days of 5C and …

Typo in paragraph 4: "bear case" should read "bull case", based on context and numbers assigned.

A common dart thrown by Samsung fanboys is that Apple is only successful be cause of its great marketing. GIven that, then SAmsung should be 10x the success of Apple because they spend 10x promoting their products. And saarek observes "I'd hardly d…
