If you're looking for a programming book I cannot more highly recommend "The Pragmatic Programmer" by Andy Thomas and Dave Hunt. It's genius and I plan to re-read it over the holidays for some inspiration.

I believe the nice fonts are provided by xft2. The app your using has to use that rather than plain old xft. How are you installing Gimp e.g fink or darwinpackages etc.?

I think a more realistic question is will it be Mac-only. I personally can't quite wrap my head around how it can take such extreme advantage of Mac hardware and also run on Windows as well as phones, cameras etc.
