I have a Pioneer DVDr drive (v5) works a treat.. It replaced a Sony that also worked well but I had to use a patch to make it work in the finder. check out http://www.xlr8yourmac.com Go for the Pioneer IMHO j.

I use a CLIE with a mac with no problems at all. I downloaded the mac software from Apple (only came with PC) and that was that. Easy Peasy.
