  • No, I don't have access to another Mac unfortunately. I did try to hold down the shift key while I booted up - I got the beep and a message to type in "mac-boot" to continue booting. I typed it in and now I'm back to the gray apple screen. Grrr.

  • Oh! I got it to beep - I guess I wasn't holding down the power button long enough. I got a long, loud beep ... and then the gray apple again. But at least it beeped at me. That's a step in the right direction!
