If Apple has PPC970 samples, is doing testing, and may preview their plans @ WWDC in May, wouldn't 3rd party companies also be in on the testing? If so, which companies would make most sense to have access? Adobe?.....etc.

Apple should me more concerned professionals are defecting as of NOW, rather than announcing the 970 ealy and worrying companies will hold off on their purchase plans. Can you spell TOO LATE?

Perhaps Apple feels the need to produce their own digital still camera and use a firewire port since everyone else chooses to stick to USB. FIrewire is only popular on Digital video camcorders.

I think it was mentioned here before that we might see a 64bit version of the OS at the WWDC to get developers up to speed. If not by then, either Apple figures there's no need to update the OS for the 970 and apps will run just fine unaltered, or …

A 64 bit version of the OS is not required to properly run on the 970 is it?? It may not be optimised but would still function correct? I sure hope this is not holding up the chip's intro.

How about a 60 gig iPod loaded with OSX, connectors for a kybrd, monitor and CDRW. BAM!!! there you have it......a $1,000 entry level Mac. Darn...guess we overshot the price point.

I'm thinking apple would do well to market just the "BOX" for a standard Wintel computer based on an Ives design. Say....$100.00 for a killer tower design. It would be labeled "PC inside".

OK....an iMAC update snds right. But 19" sceen? It's gonna require a hydraulic arm to support it. Oh.....and firewire2 HAS to appear on just about every piece of Hware.

Since the LCD monitor lineup was just updated, we should assume the new 970 Pwrmacs will use the current industrial design or at least the same colors/materials so as to make the hardware match no?

Why not a simple Digital Video Camera using MPEG4 and storing to a 20gig HD? I think Panasonic has such a device but don't use Firewire or an HD. It's TINY (size of a cretit card)! So the device is not for viewing video but for digital recording …

Who says video capability has to be added to the existing ipod? Why not a NEW "_Pod" device strictly for video/photos.

I suspect the new idevice (PlayPod?) will sport a Firewire2 port. Problem is no existing Mac sports such a port. And I think that's imPORTant....ok enough! SO......for this reason I think the intro of this new iDevice will coinside with the intro…

I don't know if they already exist, but perhaps the plan is to open an Apple store in Japan, France..... and hold special intro events there in the place of a full blown show. This would perhaps not draw the same level of publicity as a MacWrld.
