I think taking at their word, like music, movies, TV, etc., Apple is not in the banking, credit card, etc., business. The Services are there to support customer use of iOS devices. Apple is able to create strongly differentiated value to customer…

As I recall, a big part of the tanking of Apple Stock were these same institutional investors. Not sure the stock benefits from this class of investor, who run programs that auto dump good stocks. They are NOT long term investors, even Carl Icahnn i…

Big difference, the customer was the user and was focused on the user. CurrentC is focused on the retailer and that is the customer. The retailer customer is NOT the focus. If you want to make a comparison, then ATT, Verizon, et al were the cel…

This was intended as a reply to excellent post by Blastdoor.

I think this makes sense. While I am not entirely sure the suggested list of investments makes sense, the reality that $150B in cash is hard to imagine productive investments. Certainly buying Apple stock (given low P/E) and paying dividends is goo…

Unfortunately, the ease and low threshold of what constitutes evidence to warrant a threat has dropped to the point that it is effectively meaningless. This suggests that with higher security levels that can be cracked the police et al need enough …

I agree the sales expectations are rather high. IPhone sold only about 5+ million in the first year. Depending on exactly when you star counting.

http://stratechery.com/2014/now-apple-watch/ Recalling the long term move towards personal and as an aside mobile as its surrogate seeing the desktop to laptop to tablet, to smartphone, and now wearable phase 1 watch, the expectation is wearable wa…

Interesting development. I am not sure this is intended to punish SAMSUNG, my bet is Apple wants to diversify its supply chain, enhance competition, access other technology, as well as enhance protection of its chip set IP. It would not surprise m…

Well SAMSUNG has started this as well copying the stores. The interesting part is that the stores in Europe have design patents that should complicate using "copy me" strategy in one of the most important markets.
-
SAMSUNG made a gamble to put at risk it's biggest customer, Apple, to pursue smartphone competition with Apple and even after Google warned them to not copy so slavishly chose to do so. They were unable to repeat their success with Sony, Toshiba, …

While rumors about the iWatch need to be taken with a huge grain of salt, there is an internal logic in the article regarding the sapphire and AMOLED display. Regarding Sapphire, Apple has progressed in steps from camera to touch to perhaps iWatch …

It is pretty clear now to even blogger and analysts that the big threat from China will be to Android premium sales companies SAMSUNG, LG, HTC, etc versus Apple. On the high end, SAMSUNG faces Apple iPhone line up and this market is not a commodity…

Suspect data, quality from Gartner, IDC, et al. Aside, the profit share changes year over year would be more interesting. Grabbing share at the expense of profit is "easy," but eventually the piper must be paid. The PC business is a classic example, …

Amazon is experiencing the effect of investments not being profitable. although most of this has been hidden in their reports. I suspect Kindle, Fire TV, etc., are also contributing to the overall limited profitability, although not evident in thei…

It is pretty clear from Apple's execution that little has changed. The announced strategy for the last 18 months continues and suddenly market sentiment has changed. The analysts are clearly following the trends on the stock, going up and going do…

As with Android and on some rare (albeit corrected iOS apps) the developers can be as insensitive to privacy as Google. Therefore, what controls and curation does NEST do to ensure developers don't abuse the data gathered? As Apple can testify, pro…

Well there is another product line I will have to drop due to privacy. I can't imagine anyone buying Google home stuff, given Google's business is not selling this stuff but selling you to advertisers.
-
My question relates to privacy. If you do anything with Google, then you give up document, nets, pictures, etc., think Gmail, Google , Search, Maps, ...... Remember you are the product they sell not the customer they service.

If all you can imagine is the past then your predictions will look to the past. I wonder what an NPD report in Jan 2001, 2007, and 2010 predicted on MP3 players, smart phones, and tablets based on RIO, Blackberry, SAMSUNG, Google pre-iPhone, and Mic…
