OS X FTP in the finder has always been read-only. You will need some form of 3rd party FTP app.

The bank is probably just needlessly blocking any version it hasn't personally tested with, including future versions. You could try enabling the Debug menu in Safari 3 and then toggle your User Agent to Safari 2.

What folders are you referring to? Bookmark folders? If so, It's under the Bookmarks menu. If not, it may just be the people don't know what you're referring to. Please clarify.

I found that most people who found Safari 3 unusable had 3rd party plugins that needed updating. If you are running any special feature plugins, you may want to check them.

Unfortunately external hard drives are controlled by the "CDs, DVDs, and iPods" Finder preference, not the Hard disks one. Do you have that one also checked?

Instead of changing your preferences, just Shift-Command-Click your links to open in a new tab but not selected. This way you can continue to Command-Click tabs when you do want to select them.

Get Info on the track and go to the Artwork tab and delete the Artwork you don't want.

I don't recall if CS1 has this, but CS2 and later at least do. Go to Window-->Workspace-->Keyboard Shortcuts & Menus You can configure darn near anything here.
