Try booting from your install DVD then going into Disk Utility and repairing disk and permissions. The problem could be as simple as corrupted preferences which this should fix. Additionally, press [Apple][Option][O][F] then start your computer.…

Since the machine is under warranty I'd take it back and get them to look at it, perhaps to an Apple store if there is one nearby. Apple has rather odd policies regarding screen (like requiring more than 1 bad pixel to even look at it) and such b…
