Late July probably. Apple usually waits ~5 weeks to revise after new processors, and Montevina has been delayed a few weeks. Everyone else has already announced their Centrino 2 notebooks. Any later than late July would be a bit ridiculous.

I don't think an HD3850 is too much to ask though, most major manufacturers have 17"ers out with cards of that level, it's pretty much what you'd expect from a 2.5-3k laptop. We're just used to less so when we look at what everybody else considers n…

We've already been over this, Apple released Santa Rosa revision of the MBP during last years Back to School offer. Apple have to get new MacBook Pros in students hands before the start of term, the current ones just don't cut it. I doubt they ar…

There are 8800M GTSs in 17" notebooks just a few fractions of an inch thicker than the MacBook Pro. I hate to break it to you but Apple's "1 inch rule" is pretty detrimental to the performance we receive, 1" is below a critical thickness that seems …

Ah ok I see. Well, meh, it's still a mediocre upgrade. It's a bit depressing to think that in our next MBPs we'll still only be getting 4500 on 3dmark... so much for "Pro". Sighh.... I might have to get an iMac

So what are these "surprises"? Come on AI can't you give as a clue, a region, something?! *crosses fingers* decent GPU, decent GPU..

GOOD GOD I'd get a 17" alone for a mobility HD 3850 :O:O
-
But would they use an entirely different card? At least via BTO?
-
Would Apple ever put a different GPU in the 17" MBP to the 15"? I could stretch to paying for a 17" if it contained a 3800 card, is that likely?

Any time between 14th of July and the end of September. I'd say sooner rather than later as Apple always releases it's revision ~4-6 weeks after the processor is released. Montevina has been delayed 2 weeks so that takes it down to 2-4 weeks from th…

New MBPs are right around the corner, do not buy.

A 9600M GT would be disappointing even by Apple's standards...

Well.. I really have no idea what we'll see in the new MBPs then.. Does anybody think they know what's most likely?
-
The M88 is the HD 3800? Well, surely after all the time the 8600M GT has been in the MBPs Apple has been able to develop the tech and fans enough to allow for increased heat, no? What about a new case? God damn it, the 3800 is a freaking SUPER…

It's also the only 256bit memory GPU I can see that is a possibility. But we all know the MBP skimps on GPU power for thinness and Apple skimps on GPU in general, so what are the chances? I hope they're high because this is the best mobile car…

Any ideas what kind of GPU the new MBPs will have?
