Well at least consider the possibility that OSX could be ported to the X86 platform. But Apple wouldn't do it for several reasons: #1 It would take sales away from the PowerMacs. #2 MacX86 systems would not be able to run PowerPC or 68K code. …

It is like the Amiga, they are hoping on porting to the X86 to get more life into the OS. Be did this with BeOS, and NeXT did it with NeXTOs/NeXTStep. Basically the WINTEL X86 systems are a much larger market and it will help get more marketshare. …

It should be simple then for Apple to do this with modern Macs. So why haven't they?

[quote] Finally, Cable, your posts are definitely misguided. You state Apple should have bought Be instead of NeXT. While Be was a nice OS for what it was, it wasn?t ready for prime time by any stretch of the imagination. BeOS did indeed run on the…

Things change, AmigaDOS and Workbench got turned into AmigaOS around version 3.9 wasn't it? To me, the Amiga was the better Macintosh. Apple should have bought it out when they had the chance. This new system is no Amiga 500, but things change…

The Amiga is not dead yet, and it isn't underpowered either.

[quote] On the one hand you're saying BeOS is better than OSX, but on the other you say BeOS is more suited to Internet Appliances? Which is it? All I am saying is that BeOS is newer technology than OSX because the BSD and MACH Kernel are olde…

The Palm is bigger than anyone can imagine. It can do more than just Contacts, Appointments, and notes. There are many applications that can be used for other things. Unlike the Newton, the Palm seems to have caught on more. Besides I thought …

Face it Apple wouldn't know how to market the PDA and would end up with another Newton on their hands. My best idea would be to modify the iPod so that it worked as a PDA as well as played MP3 files, acted like a hard drive, etc. I think someone …

[quote]Originally posted by WilsonStark: I think that the proprietary issue is a red herring. Currently Apple makes too little profit (less than 10% as I understand it) on the iMac and too much (more than 40% as I understand it) on the PowerMa…

[quote]Originally posted by bunge: How proprietary are people willing to go? What if Apple offered a Cube-like machine (could be the Cube or a different form factor as far as I'm concerned), but the graphic card and processor could only be upgrade…

Yes the cube design would be ideal for a cheaper Mac. They could have a G3 and G4 Cube, minus the cracks. Just allow the buyer to choose their own monitor, or use the monitor from their old PC or Mac.

Cheaper Macs are needed to combat the $600USD PC. I doubt Apple can get down that low unless they make a G3 Mac that runs Darwin that can be upgraded to OSX later. By using Darwin it would shave about $100USD off the retail price. They could pre-loa…

Well if the AmigaOne can run MacOS, it is possible that it can become a bottom-end Mac. At $1200USD it is cheaper than some Mac systems. Of course it can only run MacOS via an emulator or a MacOnLinux simulator under Linux. Don't throw away that …

UAE runs great, as long as you have a fast machine it is faster than a 68060 based Amiga. All you need is a Kickstart ROM image and some webstores sell them for download or on CD, and others if you know the right location you can download them for f…

[quote]Originally posted by taboo: Yeah, but the A1200 was one mean mother to open. *sigh* I kinda miss the old Amigas. You only need to open it up once. The AmigaOne attachment uses a PCI slot in the AmigaOne, and attaches…

Last Low Cost M$ PC was called the Xbox, basically part PC and part game console. Unless you meant a PC not made by M$ but also low cost and runs M$ software? Check out

[quote]Originally posted by taboo: Any reason they can't take the old 15" iMac and revamp? In light of the comment of "the g3 has a long life ahead of it", and lower CRT prices, I would think this reasonable. Plug in a 1GHZ G3 sahara, a video…

Keyboard Mac, base it on the Amiga 500, 600, or 1200 and add everything in via the keyboard unit. Use a CD-ROM instead of a floppy drive, and there you have it!
