  • IIRC Netscape Talkbalk was used as a bug reporter whenever Netscape crashed, so when it crashed, Talkbalk fired up asking you to send information about the crash. But I didn't know that Camino used it, so I'm not sure on that.

  • Quote: Originally posted by mynamehere that doesn't work. you have to use the NAME of the computer, not the ip. For example, if you type in \\\\127.0.0.1, Windows will look for a computer with name 127.0.0.1; it won't connect to your computer. …
  • That's kind of strange that you cannot connect directly via the mac's ip address, but it shows up in the network places (which is broadcasted sort of). This would mean that the ip address isn't really what it appears to be. Usually when these wei…
  • Can you see if you can connect to your G4 from the PC using smb? Turn on windows file sharing on the Mac, enable accounts for it, and on the PC connect to the Mac (i.e. go to \\\\macipaddress in an explorer window).
  • If you want an easier way to "zoom" windows/maximize, you can set a universal keyboard shortcut for it. In the keyboard system preferences, under keyboard shortcuts, under all applications, create a new entry for "zoom" and assign it a hotkey (i.e. …
  • When I said smb://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, I hope you replaced the xxx's for the ip address of the computer (i.e. 192.168.0.3 or whatever) and not put in "xxx"..... If you have a router, you really don't need zone alarm on your PCs, it's kind of redundan…
  • May be some fan that's kicking into high gear when you're doing these 3D functions. I'd check if there's anything suspicious about the graphics card fan or fans around that.
  • When Aliases are broken, what they were pointing to has changed, so in this case, method in which you were connecting to your PC has changed (perhaps IP address or something has changed). How are you connecting to your PC? The most reliable way (IM…
  • That's funny, since both Firewire and Gigabit Ethernet both exceed the speed of hard disk read/write. Should be the same rate, but apparently FW has some overhead in your system (I get 40-50MB/s transfers using a desktop disk drive over FW, which is…
  • $ sudo mdutil -s / /: Error: Could not get indexing status for volume. Seems hopeless

  • If you want cut/paste, install On My Command and OMC Edit (search on macupdate.com), to install cut/paste for the contextual menu (unfortunately no hot keys for this). The functionality is damn useful, I don't care what anyone else says. There is no…
in Finder sucks Comment by chych June 2005
  • This 'move' function has been in OS X for a while, and works anywhere in the Finder, not just on shares (i.e. across hard disks). Personally I find it rather useful. And you can see the cursor change, that it isn't going to copy (with the +), rather…
  • It is full version, so the installation should work. Make sure you are doing a "clean" install, not an upgrade. Just boot off the CD directly. When does the error occur?
  • Not sure if I installed anything weird, but I just noticed that pressing F5 in all programs enables a word autocomplete feature. I.e. start typing a word, and press F5.
  • Don't kid around, a Pentium-M is much more powerful than a similarily clocked G4, and is pretty power efficient to boot. Get a Mac laptop because of its OS and feel, not performance.
  • Not new, you could do this in Panther.
