Hm, I've seen an even number of girls in my math, biology, and chemistry classes. Physics, computer science, and engineering classes on the other hand... definetely male dominated. Actually, I bet all the girls get sucked into biology, back in hi…

I'm pretty sure any USB microphone will work with a mac, it will be auto-detected (don't take my word on it). So you don't have to spend $50 on a mic...

See if USB Overdrive will do anything for you.

What kind of mouse, and have you tried installing the drivers/control software for the mouse? I believe the microsoft mac mouse control stuff lets you do this scrolling thing for microsoft mice.

Without Apple's specific hardware, there's no way any PPC hardware will natively boot OS X. Emulation, sure, but that's unusable. Darwin by itself, sure, someone can port that to a PPC console. I do suspect that if game makers port to Mac OS X fr…

I thought 8x cards can be run at lower speeds, i.e. 2x. However I did try a 9600 card from a G5 in a MDD G4 and it wouldn't work, the card would physically not fit in the slot.

VT's supercluster totally trumps the gov't one in internode i/o, as it uses infiniband rather than gigE ethernet. Two different purposes for these two superclusters. Not sure how this translates on a linpack test...

In my experience, the most understated thing about losing weight is the part about exercise, and I find that this is the most important thing one should take part in. At least for me, if anything, I don't need to pay attention to what I eat (i.e. I …

If it charges, then it's functional. There may be some loose connection in the plug though. I've gone through many chargers and I find them too delicate, so I would be a little careful with plugging it and wire management.

Well, one stray broken part in a machine (i.e. bad RAM) will give you instability, so hardware is definitely important. It's difficult to say which Apple machine has the best quality, since any machine can come with bad parts, if you're unlucky.

I've had this happen to my MDD a few times, power goes out, have to reset PMU. I think it's normal (though not really nice), and the CMOS batteries usually last for many years.

G1 refers to the Motorola 68k series (68000, 68040, etc) of processors, and G2 would go to the 60x series (601, 603ev, etc). Really the "G" just means generation, there are several different processors in the G3 (750, 750cx, etc), G4 (7400, 7450, et…

Google doesn't post their statistics anymore due to people abusing it (using it as hard statistics). Anyways it's a GOOD thing that Linux is gaining installed base, as it breaks the Windows dominance. And it's not like Mac users are switching to lin…

Probably means your start up disk is not set properly. Go to system preferences -> startup disk and select your start up disk, this *should* correct the boot sequence. I think your ibook is attempting to find a network disk to boot off of, then f…

Sometimes when classic hangs/freezes/crashes (like the good old OS 9 days), it eats cpu like no other.

I find it much more convenient to access my data directly from my computer, as almost everywhere I go where I need my data I have a fast connection to my computer. Or a burned CD will do...

You might as well get them from your favorite p2p app for free if you're considering allofmp3, IMO...
