18 sec on a Dual 1.25 G4 (only uses one processor though). 46 sec on a Pentium 3 @ 750mhz (mobile version?) Of course this test is inherently flawed... compilers used, optimizations used (or not, such as altivec), etc etc etc.

Data Rescue X saved my life at one point, definitely try it. The trial will at least allow you to see if it works or not (and if you're generous, buy the program).

Got my first pay check when I was 16, it was $380 for one weeks work (40h) at a university, they paid well at $10/h

For limited Gesture support, check out CocoaGestures ( http://www.bitart.com/CocoaGestures.html ), which enables mouse gesturing in any Cocoa programs. Mostly use it in Safari myself. And thanks Kickaha, for the Key Caps trick

I want the Key Caps program back, such a pain to use the input menu (and disable it since it is useless for anything else). Finder ftp, god, it's been too long and we still can't upload. Also ability to remove the dumb warning message when you di…

Does taking out the RAM cause Reason to work again?

Um, OS X should be able to read FAT32 disks, since OS 9 even (see http://www.apple.com/macosx/upgrade/compare.html ). I don't think OS X can write to NTFS anyway. Maybe it's an issue of reading over usb?

I'm pretty sure WMP9 on the Mac can't play some encodings of WMV9, it isn't as full featured as it should be.

Really sounds like the HDD is about to die, better back up files and such immediately. I've had HDDs that gradually died, i.e. stopped working, and worked the next day (eventually stopped working completely). HDDs simply weren't made how they used t…

Go for it, the only functional advantage of the iMac is the LCD, but it is at a lower resolution anyway.

Hm, iTunes is eating a massive 2-5% when playing music, oh no the world is coming to an end.

Oh it's possible to spoof your MAC address, try: http://slagheap.net/etherspoof/ Now, good luck. Edit: Found another method (that may work?): + open the terminal + type 'sudo ifconfig en0 ether (you'll be asked for your root password)

What G4 system is this? You can either get another video card, PCI based, like the Mac Radeon 7000, or you can replace the AGP card with a dual head card, like the newer Radeons or Geforces. After that, it's really plug and play. Open up displ…

They're probably going to release the new G5s in the summer, with up to 3GHz (or close to)... Those predictions don't work, Apple doesn't supply the highest end graphics cards in the stock configurations (and doesn't make any sense to).

You can run command line programs in the terminal, that's about the coolest thing about it. The most common programs I use are: ssh - log on to remote hosts top - list processes/cpu usage/memory usage ps - list processes lsof - list open fi…

I believe you can do stereo x2 with them, as well as prologic decoding (creates 5 pseudo channels out of 2 channels). You may need a cable splitter to do stereo x2, not sure.

We have a guy in our suite who takes 30-40 minute showers, and on Thursdays (tomorrow) he has a class at 12:30 and starts showering at ~11:10. Well, another one in our suite as well as me have a class at 12, and we take 10 min showers (and wake up l…

Well, Crucial doesn't sell everything, i.e. the RAMs clocked between 3200 and 4300, or 4400-4500, and other rare types. But they sell the more common stuff
