You can buy a Sound Blaster Live Mac Edition. I haven't seen one in a while, but they were like $90 a year ago. Don't trust my memory though.

I think a PDA and a regular phone would be smaller than that. Plus you wouldn't get strange looks from people who think you're talking to a vibrator

People like you are few and far between. I should be less cynical but I've seen stores like wal-mart that are all flags and smiley faces on the surface but could care less about the customer at the end of the day. [ 09-18-2002: Message edited by…

The part of the story I find the most unbelivable is that the salesman was trying to save her money. That's like stocking the new milk in the front of the case isn't it?

Why would AMD do this??? I think they could realse it at 500 MHz, then realize they can't deliver drop it down to 450 for a while. Then make a big deal about going back to 500 and stay there for a year. That would keep Intel away and gain market…

[quote] These guys are brilliant and well connected. Checkout their review on the 3+ GHz P4s Tom's is Intel's bit.. ur ah.. friend, so that comment is suprising. I didn't read that whole article(broken link), but I don't trust Tom's hardware.

[quote] And when intel is 1.75Gghz( by christmas) faster than we are that's going to make a difference. They are at 2.8 now, and will be at 3.0 by christmas. On another down note... I saw this on Slashdot Even they doubt it's 100% acutate,…

Not if they keep doing what they are now. They have a habbit of pulling things out at the 11th hour though.

Yeah, less you would see a power4 first. And for that matter you won't see a power4, because the power4 and spark are both too expensive.

[quote]Originally posted by thegelding: it would be upgradable, but a single instead of a dual...could apple, while maintaining it's PM price margins, make a tower for 1299?? and would people buy it if it only had a single lets say 933 chip inside?…

[quote]Originally posted by Aris: "15 to 20 stage pipelines" thats a pretty long pipeline.. isnt the P4 like 24 stage. dont know the exact number but that sounds close. that will allow very high clock speeds. I belive the P4 is 20 and …

I'm glad some one brought up the change to a seven stage pipe-line. So, if you discount the differences in cache the Current 1 GHz G4 isn't even twice as fast as the 500 MHz model. The megahertz myth isn't a myth if you are talking about the same …

True, but when people don't have as much money the sure aren't going to spend $2,000 to get a G4 the is maybe a couple MHz faster than what they have now. If Apple wants to catch up with Intel or AMD they have to stay in the game.

I'm trying to think back a couple years here but.... Isn't the G4 basically and updated G3 with AltVec? I wouldn't mind a significantly updated G4 labeled "G5". A different possessor deserves a different name. However, the "G" stands for gener…

Apple knows what CPU they want to be using in 12-18 months. We can speculate from now until the next PowerMac, but if Apple doesn't know they better start filling out the Chapter 11 forms. I do hope they are changing to AMD(cause Mot sucks) and th…
