  • This is nothing. I once had a Sony Vaio laptop. Four days *before* the expiration of my warranty, the unit stopped powering up. They refused to honor their warranty since it was so close to expiration.

  • It's really up to your area. In some areas, cable is great, in others, it's crap. Go with cable, if your download speed sucks (in my area it's 2x the speed of a modem) or if your provider is say Adelphia, then cancel and get dsl instead.

  • PCs come with MovieMaker 2 which is no iMovie but is still okay. DVD software will definately be an expense. Also, a firewire card. Most PCs in the price range he wants don't come with firewire. That's another $40.
