That petition was written a long time ago IIRC. Valve has not set a release date for hl2(other than september 2003). April seems unlikely without an announcement yet.

I encoded a short clip, removed 3ivx, and it would not play. I'm pretty sure you need to change the FourCC of the video to match apple's mpeg4 code. Anyways, it isn't worth the hassle.

If you use your own ISP, it goes down as a voice call and counts on your minutes. Some services like AT&T don't allow this. Cingular does if you call and ask them to enable it. Then, you don't need a data plan.
