A recently popularised technique is to put a computer track on the cd, which has an autorun installer on it. The autorun installs a custom player and gets in the way of using the cd with normal software. Not installing bypasses this problem.

I bought mine from a local mac shop. They are buying them as service parts. Was $125, which considering shipping, warranty, convenience, seems pretty fair compared to $100 on ebay.
