Then again, look at the amount of crap we didn't have from OS 9 (and in a few cases probably still don't)... :-) Funny, I can't think of many examples at the moment (it's amazing how fast you forget the old once you have used the new long enou…

Based on that argument there shouldn't be a single new car introduced any time in the near future. You have to make the best product you can sell now using currently available technology. For example, it's great that GM is working on hydrogen ca…

Theoretically, probably. Realistically, no! I basically make the decisions on the implementation of 100-200 Macs. I'm testing anti-virus software right now simply because it won't hurt anything and it will improve a "goal" we have of having a…

As far as I now OS X didn't remove the need for a cross-over cable, modern Apple hardware did. I can't remember how far back it goes but most modern Macs have built in Auto-Sensing ethernet ports. Also, no need for firewire disk mode if you just…

If you are running 10.4 (and I think 10.3 with the right client updates) you already have VNC installed (or should). Go into your system preferences and select Sharing. Start the Apple Remote Desktop service. Check the VNC viewers may control s…

Couple of things... Biggest reasons for Apple not to switch to x86 during the OS X conversion...Classic - the only thing I've seen about it is that it isn't a priority. In other words, it isn't likely to work. Classic was a requirement for the c…

I can pretty much promise you Adobe lets software out with known bugs... We've worked with Adobe pretty closely on a variety of issues we have had with their software (we're a rather large unit). Adobe has even sent techs to our site to see firs…

More Info: Here is a copy of our DirectoryService.server.log related to a reboot. As you can see I shut down the machine at 3:14 and it was basically back up at 3:15. However, immediately after Active Directory completed loading we got two "Netwo…

We've used it at a company I work at. We have "clone" setup drives. If a computer is acting up or as we roll out OS X we simply clone from our portable firewire drive to the machine. I can't begin to describe how much time it has saved us!

1. I've never used the .Mac backup so I can't tell you how well that works. A simple option is to use a FireWire Hard Drive and buy Carbon Copy Cloner ($5 shareware). It makes a bootable mirror image of your hard drive. Another simple option wo…
