The computer directly connected to the Airport (if by ethernet) should be set to use AppleTalk over ethernet. Also, you may have to use the Airport software to turn AppleTalk to Ethernet bridge or some setting like that on.

A cross over cable could do the trick too. Also, I haven't tried it in X yet but in 9 you can just turn on file sharing and set the sharing for the CD you insert. Then you can access it on your other computer. Very easy to do.
