I hope that Apple releases a dual 2.5ghz 970 for the "price-is-no-object" professionals. That would get apple some respect.

A Leica digital camera...man, I'd want one.

It ain't Apple to make an optical electronic device. They have done it, and they failed. White wouldn't look good on a camera. Aluminum would be nice, though.

An Apple digicam. Nice. Cool. It would be good for tech newbies. Nice. Cool. But lets look at the specs. Who would make the CCD? Who would make the lense assembly? Not Nikon. Not Zeiss(they're with Sony). Who?

Whoa, a bit touchy-feely there about the Cube, Brian Green...it ain't a memorial service you know. If you guys are talkin' a Dell competitor out of the Cube, there is a giant factor that is not being calculated: the screen. At the prices that are…

This is why the cube died. The professionals wanted something more powerful and expandable, so they bought Powermacs. The consumers saw the iMacs, which cost less, and the consumers didn't need a G4. So they bought iMacs. The only people that bought…

I highly doubt that this will have much effect on Apple.

I'm a-liking it... what kind of GPU would you need to drive the monster? [ 02-27-2003: Message edited by: os10geek ]

Why doesn't Apple just make a "Super Cinema" display that has a native res of 4000 X 3000? Actually, that would be a studio aspect ratio, but why not?

Hopefully, by going with the 9xx family, Apple will have a stable road of dependable processors leading them into the future. IBM has a well planned future roadmap, and hopefuly, this will mean that Apple won't be stuck using the same processor for …

Why in hell would Apple not use dual G4's, not to mention the fact that a G3 MP setup, if achieved, would be inefficient. The G3 is dead. Lets admit that fact.
-
Seeing as the current fastest dual config could tie with the fastest single processor (1.8 ghz) 970, the dual 970 should be about 3500+ dollars.
-
Seeing as the eMac costs about 40% of what the 970 will cost without a monitor, the eMac would be a good choice to keep you tided over. The bad thing is that the eMac will resell for a price so low that anyone in the market for an eMac (read: very f…

The 9700 is (supposedly) available as a BTO option on Apple's site (yeah, right - it has had a "coming soon" status for 1 or 2 months, now) And anyway, the 9700 would be a helluva lot better with AGP 8X...but if we got AGP 8X on the Mac, we mig…

OS X itself runs faster and more dependably on a G4, even if you are not running Photoshop. It should be mandatory on any Mac (iBook shifts uncomfortably in its seat)

My point exactly. But I do think that naming the next-gen Powermac after a Fighterjet and/or a spacecraft would be an attractive idea, Hoboxt...
-
Personall, I think that having another "G" processor would sound just plain goddam stupid. Let it be the Powermac 970: a no-frills, informative name.

Apple will probably just do a brief preview of 10.3 64-bit edition to prepare developers for the 64-bit change.

How severe are the punishments for leaking Apple product info? Anyone know?

[quote] Apple needs to focus on making OSX bulletproof and so far ahead of XP that it's a no brainer. It looks like that has been done, but Windows users are not walking toward the bright light.
