See sig for my computer. Just got this - it will have to last 3 years. Should be no problem - I'm just a word processer / iTunes / web browsing guy. I can see my graphics chip becoming outdated soon, meaning some of the fancier aspects of the int…

9.2.2. RoadRunner, the cable internet provider in my area, does not fully support OS X yet. It will work, but they "can't guarantee perfect functionality." I am having enough problems with them already (lots of outages) without swimming against the …

I am proud to say I suspected this wasn't legit! Quitting and then re-opening the browser does help a little - but why should I have to do even that?

Well, icWord 2.1 did the trick - opened it perfectly, all formats still there. Nice!

Didn't do any good. Screw it - I emailed the original file to a friend who claims he can convert it for me. We'll see.

I guess that brings up another question - is sleep all the iMac needs? I never shut down my old PowerBook 520. It would be in sleep mode for months and months. But my Mac OS9 Bible says I should shut it down once a day. Any point in doing that?

From the sounds of it you usually don`t go out and get new computers that often. Haha, too true. 7 years with the PB 520. The iMac is going to have to last at least 3, that's for sure.

Aha. I actually work for a small university. I'll investigate that, thanks.

Well, lesson learned! last night I dropped off to sleep listening to some very chill ambient from Astreaux World. I had set my iMac to shut down at 3 AM. So at 2:45 AM, I am violently awakened by a computerized female voice shouting "Warning! …

Thanks everyone. Sounds like upgrading sooner rather than later is the way to go. One more incredibly stupid question about the RAM, then: if I buy a, say, 512mb chip, does that replace or get added to the RAM I already have? In other words, woul…

Cool, thanks guys.

"for people to spen $500 on something that dies within in year or maybe 2 seems pretty expensive." It sure does seem like they die a lot. Reading the postings on iPodlounge make sit seem as if it's almost guaranteed that you'll have serious probl…

Well, I went the east route and popped in to my local Apple store and picked up an external floppy drive. As my files were all just AppleWorks word processing files, it was a very easy transfer. I came up with a couple of scenarios where I might act…

"why do you need to open them? just copy the files off the floppy to the G4 then email them to your iMac... no opening necessary... or am i missing something?" Sorry...I must not have made this clear, but I can't copy the files off the floppy be…
