At least the Airport modules used to be standard PC Card 2/ PCMCIA -type cards outsourced from the big names. Are they still done like this or are they now chips surface mounted on the motherboard?

Thanks! That was very informative! Does anybody have info on the 512MB and 1024MB chips? Are they still Samsung (and what latencies/voltages are specified for the modules)?

A word of warning. I have a FW800 (IEEE1394B) external HD with Oxford 922 chipset. It will NOT work with any of my FW400 based macs (G4/Digital Audio or PB15" TiBook). It just shuts down the computers, when it is plugged in. This is with…

Silicon scaling is dead (for now). Intel knows it, IBM knows it and AMD either knows it or is just too stubborn to admit it. 1. with leakage current the scaling of power requirements is not linear. It gets progressively worse the more current you…

It appears the kind of book for OS X I'm looking for does not exist? I've already got gobs of Unix and BSD books, but I want something OS X speficic, that show stuff that is specific to OS X from other BSD derivatives. Maybe somebody should wr…

Thanks for the comments and the welcoming If you find any benchmarks, please do report them here. If anybody has a chance to test even an older ATI card (say Rage 128 Pro) against a newer ATI or nVidia card with real-life apps, I'd really app…
