Hell, I've been using macs since day one (Apple's day one, that is) but this is my first powerbook. If I could work in a mac computing envoronment, I would. Unfortunately, we use certain wondows-only apps that do not work well over VPC.

I finally had the time to unpack the new PB amd set it up. What a beautiful machine. I had my dell d400 right next to it for reference to passwords, wireless eettings, etc., and it can't even compare. Tranfering files from our old imac using air…

It just arrived. Now I have to sit here and stare at the box across the office for the next 10 hours...

I'd be upset about a 5-day turn around if I needed it sooner. Also, most retaielrs have it in stock, and could have shipped it to me the same day I placed the order. At this point, I'm not complaining, as I won't be able to get around to setting…

So it shipped yesterday (2 days). Curious...

Thanks for the response. My goal here isn't necessarily the music capabilities, as I am not all that excited about playing low-quality mp3's over my stereo. what I want is great b/g range. I will set up my netgeat router and see what kind of rang…

For those in mixed-platform environments, I came across a very interesting article about printing wirelessly to an Airport Base Station print server from a Win XP machine. Worth the read...

Anyone know if this will integrate into a non-apple wireless environment (i.e. can I use it in conjunction with my existing netgear wireless network)?

Looks like Toshiba is the way to go. CDW has some rather good deals on Tecra's and Portege 4110's. The Sp 6100 reviewed above is a bit biger than what I am looking for, but I will go to the local Crap USA and put my hands on a few of these machine…

Thanks for all of the responses. Has anyone used Toshibas? The Portege 4010 and Tecras look like they might fit the bill, though they are a bit more expensive. Thanks, SM

We use a rev B bondi imac as our primary e-mail web browsing, quicken, all-around machine. It's fine for that. SM

My IT dept. is requiring that I use a Novell client. I am not sure if this is a security issue or something else, but, since I am the only Mac user in the firm, I don't have a whole lot of leverage. Thanks, SM [quote]Originally posted by to…

Is this even worth doing, then? I work in a pc-only office, but want to use a Powerbook as my primary machine, w/o losing access to the windows-olny apps that we use. It sounds more and more like I'm going to be stuck using a Windows box (or noteb…

Can I run the OS9 client in classic mode and still gain access to all of the network resources (specifically printers)? I have to use VPC, as well, because I have several Windows-only apps that I must use. [quote]Originally posted by alcimedes:…
