I use Mozilla Thunderbird, but I haven't tried the rest. It seems to have a decent feature set, but is definitely not OS X-native. Like all Mozilla stuff, it lacks any sense of the Mac look and feel.

I've been using Adium 2 (X, whatever) for about four months now as my full time client and I love it. Highly recommended.

Maybe this user template could help in figuring out what the search base is supposed to be: http://rsug.itd.umich.edu/cgi-bin/cv...pe=text/plain. I bet the reason you're showing up and your brother is not is because since you just registered for …

I've tried to get the Umich directory to work in address book, but to no avail. I remember some kind of instructions some guy posted on his site about how to get it to work in Outlook. I tried using those same directions for Address Book, but got no…

Couldn't an obvious fix be for the Finder to check if the application that is going to launch a file based on its resource fork can also be launched by the default app for that file's extension? If it can't, it warns the user: "The file your are att…

That's not what tree means, I don't think. It still is adjusting the volume and the brightness, it's just not showing the bezel. And there is no function key on an iMac, it's only on the portables. As far as how to fix it, I'd try a repair permis…

My record on my TiBook is 30 days and some change. But right now it's a lot shorter 'cause of the security update.

I'm trying to remember dates.... I think the 3G was released in May, so you must have a 2G. My 2G will sometimes reset or crash if the remote is not plugged in the whole way. I haven't used my remote in a long while, but I remember it used to do …

I don't remember for sure since it's been a while since I've done video work, but if you're working with some kind of pro-format you might be able to stripe the tape with fresh TC without erasing it. But I'm not 100% sure.

I currently use CCC with Psync to backup my internal drive to a partition on my external. And I just downloaded PsyncX, and I think I'll try that out. But how does Rsync differ from Psync? Do they both do basically the same thing - incremental ba…

I get that error occasionally. When I try to connect again (2-3 times or so), it works eventually.

Could be bad RAM. Of course, I blame almost all inexplicable crashes on bad RAM. EDIT: Oops, got there too late.

I seem to remember hearing that Russian organized crime is pretty into identity theft, so this might just be another way for them to do this.

G2 10GB. Got it when I was 18, I'm now 19.

If you really want to see just OS X apps, assuming you keep them where you're supposed to, you can just pipe a grep into ps: Code: ps -ax | grep Applications

There are two different kinds of speed. There is pure number-crunching speed, and there is interface responsiveness. It's in this second category that Apple cannot skimp. XP is Snappy (on a clean install, without all the adware that will accumulate …

Spiffy! Thanks. No more unsecuredness for me.

No, I didn't have to go back to where the VPN'ed wireless was, just click Connect and Disconnect, even with no connection at all. Don't bother waiting too long for it to time out, either. You just want the Cisco client to tell the system that it's d…

I'm not sure if the situation you're describing is the same as an issue I had last year, but it might be, so here goes.... I used the Cisco VPN Client to connect to a Cisco VPN on a wireless network on campus, and I found that if I just close my …
