  • Coming to a theater near you - Blackberry: The Motion Picture

For 2022 is effectively the end of the story, as BlackBerry removed the ability for its old phones to even make calls in January.

I’m sorry, what? Blackberry won’t even function as a basic cellphone? That’s mental. Hell, even a phone from 1990 should still be able to make calls. That’s literally the basic functionality of a cellphone.
Not true at all. Old tech phones are no longer working because the cellcos are decommissioning the old 2G and 3G networks.  Heck the first few generations of the iPhone also no longer work, for the same reason. The analog phones from the 1990s have been dead for years.

  • Electric vehicle maker Polestar beats Tesla to Apple CarPlay

Tesla and Rivian have been resisting CarPlay
They are not really resisting, they simply do not NEED it. Tesla, and I assume Rivian have their own solution which duplicates everything CarPlay provides and then some. For example navigation is tightly coupled to their charging network, including current availability updated in real time.

Tesla is considering becoming an AirPlay 2 destination. They also could use Apple Music as a media source. Right now Tesla is limited to  LiveOne (FKA Slacker), Spotify and Tidal.

Tesla’s media and navigation capabilities are really pretty decent. CarPlay would be a step backward for Tesla, and I assume Rivian (I have no direct experience with Rivian).

  • Everything Apple Sherlocked in macOS Ventura, iOS 16, and iPadOS 16

The touchbar is one of Apple’s products that they never really had much faith in. When you look at them in the Apple stores, most employees don’t know that much of what you could do with it. From that perspective, it’s clear that Apple didn’t want to spend a lot of time training their employees on how to really get good usage out of it.

I'll give the hardware devs a pass on this one - they weren't certain how it could be used but threw it into the real world to let others see if they could figure something out. They could not.

Physical keys with embedded LCDs would be useful for apps like Logic and FCP, but again has no obvious advantage for most users
I still miss it though, on my 16

  • Tesla, BMW don't appear to be gearing up to join Apple's new CarPlay vision

Tesla has a great system, something CarPlay won’t be able to fully replace. Other car manufacturers don’t really have a fraction of the computing and operating capabilities Tesla has. CarPlay can help the other companies but I don’t see it actually running the entire car.
Agreed. CarPlay will never come to Tesla, because Tesla’s built-in system is much more integrated with the car, the charging infrastructure, navigation and Full Self Driving.

Now what would be nice would be to have Apple Music as a media source. Tesla now uses LiveOne (fka Slacker), Spotify and Tidal.  I’d like to see Apple Music added. Tesla is considering becoming an AirPlay 2 destination. Perhaps an AppleTV+ client could be developed, especially with the addition of the rear seat media screen.

But there is no need whatsoever for CarPlay in a Tesla.

  • Apple is switching its virtual Apple Cash cards to the Visa network

GS is paying me more than a thousand dollars per year to use my AppleCard. I use it for absolutely everything, except Costco of course.
