  • Apple could be Tesla's biggest threat, analyst says

    tmay said:
Tesla has something on the order of 20% of the BEV market, right at 500,000 units sold for 2020, and as the number of BEV models increases in the market, Tesla will see its unit marketshare shrink, and that's going to be readily apparent in 2021.

Worse for Tesla, Model S and Model X sales are being cannibalized by Model 3 and Model Y sales, which is driving down the ASP of Tesla vehicles.

    Numbers for 2020,

    345,000 Model 3
    80,000 Model Y
    55,000 combined Model S and Model X

Apple won'f have any impact on Tesla sales for another 4 or 5 years, so all of that competition is coming from the "dinosaurs" like VW, Chinese EV companies, and a few new entrants which may or may not survive.

Tesla's biggest fuckup, is not having an EV pickup until, at best, late next year, when Ford will be delivering an F-150 EV in volume production, not to mention GM with a Hummer model.
The 20% is for 2019. Tesla is up to 26% of the BEV market. My guess it is around 50% of the revenue.

  • EU details appeal against Apple and Ireland's $14.4 billion tax ruling

Ultimately it comes down to this:

Is it legal for a company to act within the laws enacted within a company and then be punished when some other country thinks they are not fair?

Currently, the main defense is "It isn't fair/moral" (although many dispute that is the case) and elected officials are unable (or politically unwilling) to actually fix the problem legislatively.  Instead, they hope the courts will overstep their mandate and effectible write new laws the legislative branches are unwilling to do themselves.

  • Apple Car could be made in the US by Hyundai in 2024

Mostly agree although Tesla loses money in every car it sells. It is only profitable through sales of EV credits as offsets to other car manufacturers not yet meeting their EV targets. Once the other manufacturers meet these imposed targets Tesla will quickly be in a world of pain.
Note: I still don’t believe the Apple Car hoopla.  I just see them using cars as a tech test bed. That said, I think you undersell Tesla’s business model as it is nothing short of genius.

Tesla figured out how to get other car manufactures to pay for them figuring out mass scale car manufacturing. Genius.

yes: the stock is in 2H2 O2 bubble territory and it will pop soon with a big boom IMO.

note: I thought the same of Apple in 2005 and 90% of my shares thinking: 300% in 3 years is too good to be true. Oops.

  • Apple Watch users can take part in 2021's 'Ring in the New Year' challenge

My advice to those wanting to close their rings. Get a dog. Dog's love walks and that is all it takes to close your rings every single day. I have closed all three rings for 212 consecutive weeks.

  • EU proposes sweeping regulations on Big Tech, hefty fines for noncompliance

Will we be able to uninstall the AppStore app and install one of our own choosing?
Why would you want to? Just because of ‘principle’? Whether you agree with it or not, Apple’s way of doing things makes some sacrifices for a much better overall user experience.

When I download an app from the App Store I have almost no concern about the security of it. You can say you want the right to install whatever you want on your own device (although the operating system which makes your device work doesn’t belong to you...), but that’s an issue of principle with very little actual benefit, and certainly nothing that will make a big difference in the life of 99.99% of users.
The generic answer to the question "why would you want to do that" is "because I know something you don't".
In this case I can think of a large number of super cool things I could do with my iPhone if Apple did not prevent me from doing them.
It is my choice to take the risk, not Apple's and certainly not yours.
The flip side is there are options which allow that OUTSIDE the Apple eco-system. From Android the Linux phones, you CAN do these cool things without IMPACTING the 1,000,000,000+ users this design will impact in a negative way.

it is not YOUR choice to take away MY option for better security.
