  • Privacy campaigner targets Apple's use of device tracking for advertisers

It may be that EU citizens won't do anything for money, unlike Americans.

One of my favorite jokes comes from the movie Hook. The adult Peter Pan, played by Robin Williams, is now a hedge fund manager, and says that researchers are replacing rats with lawyers because there is just some things rats won't do.

That fits the vast majority of Americans perfectly.

Not doing anything for money matches a great number of EU citizens as well:-) I have worked with and known enough people from France, Spain and Greece to know EU citizens are not some moral paragons of virtue unwilling to do unscrupulous acts to make a Euro.

  • Twelve years later, Apple is still trying to erase mac.com email addresses

I'll give you my .Mac address when you pry it from my cold, dead hard drive!!
My original AppleID was simply a “FirstName LastName”. This was created when I created my NeXT account and was migrated to Apple as my developer account. I got a .mac account long ago and started using that for personal (vs developer) stuff.

It was several years before they required email addresses. Due to 2FA, I finally had to change that to an email address but there was no way to associate it with an .iCloud.

    AppleID issues are a RPITA.

  • Epic Games wanted a special deal for 'Fortnite' on the App Store

This new fact confirms what there is behind Epic’s shouting and crying about Apple’s monopoly and about absence of freedom in AppStore.
Money, money and ones again money!
There really wasn’t any question about it. If Epic could have shown they have been damaged by paying Apple 30%, then they might have a point in this lawsuit. What they have shown is that Apple made them a lot of money and took care of the hosting, billing and bookkeeping for Fortnite for 30% of billions.

    Those poor bastards.
Hosting?  Apple doesn't host the game servers.  They host the server where a tiny app lives that Apple forces Epic customer to download from.  That's it.  Once downloaded, Apple's job is done.  Why should Apple get 30% for "billing and bookkeeping" when Epic is perfectly capable of doing that itself if not for the fact that Apple forces them to go through Apple and pay 30%?  I wonder how many bookkeepers in the companies of the world get 30% of the companies revenue (not profit, but gross revenue)?  I'd venture a guess of practically NONE.

To be fair, Epic should charge $1.99 for the app, and Apple gets 30% of that.  Then, all the IAP's are through Epic payment systems since Apple has nothing to do with that.
Highly uneducated post. Apple basically gives away the entire dev toolset away for free ($100/year is basically free to Epic).

Apple maintains the security, the platform and the hardware. Apple CREATED the platform Epic makes most their money from.

you could argue the 30% should be less but it is highly uneducated to argue 0%.

  • Jony Ive delayed Apple's AR headset project over design concerns

There's obviously no need to rush out a solution. VR is floundering and Apple is already a leader in AR.
Can't agree more on this. We need tech to connect us MORE to our immediate surroundings instead of less. We have Twitter and Facebook for that.

  • Lawsuit alleges Apple involved in 'flagrant' music piracy on iTunes

It's odd to me that almost every (every?) one of these "iTunes is pirating my music" lawsuits seems to come from artists (or their representatives) that have 1) older music or 2) nearly unheard of music or 3) a combination of the previous two. I'm not saying that invalidates their claims by any means. How come we don't hear that sort of thing from current big name artists?

Edit: Incidentally, it also seems that these are the artists that iTunes/Apple would be earning the least from. What is the incentive for Apple to be pirating music (at all, really) that likely isn't played/purchased very much?
It has more to do with the labyrinth which is the rights management of the music industry. There are so many pieces from recording, song writing, to performance to ... and every party gets a chunk. Then holders die and the rights get spilt off to other people. Some of those will sell their parts to various holding companies which think they own 100% of the specific part of the rights but actually only own 70%. 15% went to Company XYZ, 7% went to Company ABC and the remaining 8% still sits in some unknown state.

Then the 7% wonder realizes this and it is called "flagrant" copy right infringement because you are missing some aspect of the rights to distribute the song.
