  • Russian bank exec says Apple Card has 'few innovative features' [u]

Banks should be....  wait for it.... Banks.

They should be old stogggie conservative institutions concentrating on keeping money fluid and safe.

Yes, invest in new tech (including block chain if it can improve security) to add convenience but stay out of delivery, automotive, aerospace...

Banks should be trusty risk adverse.

    Be a bank.

  • A5X: How Apple took iPad to a luxury tier rivals couldn't match

The display is everything. I work at home with dual 27" 5k displays. At work I get dual 19" 1MP displays. Seriously???

i am stunned at the difference in productivity it makes. From tablet to desktops. It’s the display.

In 2019 America only 2-3 major companies dominate every major economic sector, from ecommerce to air travel, to the TV shows you watch - if think that's good for consumers, you're massively ignorant of both economics and history. Tech monopolies are no different than monopolies in any other sphere - there is a point when too big is bad for consumers and the company itself. Monopolies have no interest in innovation, they have an interest in rent-seeking.

As an Apple-focused site, look no further than the keyboard issues of recent Macs. If you want macOS, there is ONE company that makes it. So take that shitty keyboard or go use Windows. Real choice!
But I guess giant government is just fine, huh? Government can never get so big that it it’s bad for the people? Never fear, the elites will take care of our every need. Oh, and Apple is NOT a monopoly, even unto itself. Psystar found that out the hard way.
I don't care about how "big" government is, I care about how effective it is. America already has a giant government, which is fitting for being the world's largest economy and a country of 340 million people. The problem is not the size, the problem is who government works for now. Clue: it's not average Americans - something that everyone agrees, whether you're conservative or liberal. That has to change. At least with government, you can vote these people out and change who represents you. Try quitting Facebook, or Amazon, or Google - it's impossible.
@heli0s: Lots of untruths in most of what you write.

    For example:
In 2019 America only 2-3 major companies dominate every major economic sector, from ecommerce to air travel,
Let's take Air travel. If I want to fly from The Phoenix area to the Chicago area, I can use:
    Delta,
    American,
    Spirt,
    Southwest,
    United,
    Allegiant Air

    Let's see.  1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

Okay. That is 6 different options with amazing competition. Sounds GREAT for consumers. I can tear apart each of you baseless claims in your first post just as easily. By using facts, it is easy to show you do not really understand a word you wrote on that first post:

The problem is not the size, the problem is who government works for now. Clue: it's not average Americans - something that everyone agrees, whether you're conservative or liberal.
I would say using the word "everyone" makes this a statement of extreme hyperbole and "some" or "many" might be a better choice of words. Most moderates, would strongly disagree with your view.

Apple as well as most (Western) mega corporations need to stop enabling oppressors by giving them the tools treat half of those counties population as property. We are all humans, we are born with rights and they should all be the same no matter your gender, race....etc. Unfortunately capitalist greed is spineless when standing up for what is really important.
Oh, please. You think socialist countries are devoid of graft and corruption? They are the worst.
Care to back that assertion up with facts or data? I'm of the opinion human greed & corruption isn't limited to political dogma.
Venezuela? North Korea? The simple fact human greed and corruption isn't limited to political dogma is the exact reason placing all the power into a centrally controlled state always seems to end oppression and human atrocities. It becomes easy to justify sacrificing the sanctity of the individual to allow for a "greater good". Stalin and Chairman Mao happily killed 10's of millions in the quest for their politically correct society.
You didn’t read carefully. I didn’t say cite me examples of corruption in socialist countries. I said back up the claim that corruption is worse in socialist states than any other historic form of human governance. Good luck with that.

FYI, North Korea is socialist in name only. It’s a dictatorship, totalitarian, etc. Far cry from Sweden and other democratic parliamentary countries practicing socialism.
Given every socialist country has gone down in corruption and flames is backing up the statement. We have run the experiment for over 100 years and the data is in. Socialism equates to humane atrocities and mass murder. P.S. don’t cite the Nordic countries as socialists because they are free markets with a larger social net. Not socialism.

  • Washington D.C. government sues Facebook over Cambridge Analytica scandal

I'm puzzled over this. Really I am.

In 2008, the media lauded the Obama campaign for using the growing social media platforms to create a grass roots campaign by scraping data from its users and user's "friends". Obama even had a special app for the 2012 campaign requiring FB login and it collected (without clear notification) very similar data as the CA data.

Personally, I think they are both reprehensible invasions, but why was it lauded by the media in 2008 and 2012 as a wonderful use of the new social media platforms and fully demonize in 2016?
